Worst era of a coach

I hate this part of a coaching tenure. Everyone with a clue knows he is done but we have to play out another season or two waiting for the end. It was painful with Bennett and painful now.

'another season or two'? Really? I would hope the admin/CofC would terminate JJ at the end of this season. We really don't want a lame duck coach for one season as that would totally kill recruiting. If they are foolish enough to give him an extension then they will see a really empty stadium.

These overreactions are the height of absurdity. One game into the season? After a game that could have gone either way? Amazing.

Not really absurd. A lot checked out after the ASU fiasco and another bunch checked out after Tulane.
It is not just a one game reaction.

Jones should have been fired when he flirted with ASU and recruited for them while receiving his fat $2mm annual paycheck. It's beyond me how he was not sent to the curve then. We would could started with a clean slate and brought in someone that wants to develop something special here at SMU, much like fatterson did with the horny toads.
Now we have to live with this mediocrity for a few more years. If we think recruiting is bad now, I'd hate to think what it will be like in his last year.

The Arizona State mess is over, and how much of that was caused by Turner's broken promises? Oh, and bad losses do happen, to everybody. A key underlying fact is that many of these guys were all too willing to buy anything and everything that Adrian Klemm was selling. This irresponsibility from posters hurts us, with recruits and current players...can't you at least see how a half of the season plays out, or have you long ago made up your minds? I know the answer.

Jones doesn't compare to Bennett, Caven, Rosley or Gregg. Nothing against these coaches as they all had huge barriers to success but they didn't win. And James Steward, HN Russell, Chalmer Woodard, and Bill Meek had pretty crummy records at SMU.

One game of the Mumme offense produced nearly 500 yards, and the players might know the plays, but I doubt any would say they run the offense like it's second-nature yet. If JJ should go after losing a game, in which SMU was competitive until midway through the 4th quarter, then I guess the head coaches at UConn, New Mexico, South Florida, Oregon State and Kansas State should be shot.
Whether it's right or wrong, he's not going to get fired during the season. Whining on here every day makes SMU fans look bad. There's nothing wrong with that being your opinion, but send it it to Rick Hart (he seems pretty accessible, according to some on here). Singing the same song on here day after day, especially after one game, makes us seem like weak fans.

Glad this board is allowed to express all opinions good or not so good. Whine or encourage. Now let's beat MSU.

Jones is the HC and he should and needs to accept responsiblity for not being able to compete with teams we should be able to compete with and beat now into this lenght of his tenure. He was still receiving his salary when he was flirting with ASU and recruiting for them. There is no one else that has the same responsibility for the football product on the field. If that's not the case, then he should return his salary.

June's irresponsibility hurts us a lot more than something a fan writes on a message board.

Hayden Fry's record was not exceptionally noteworthy, either. Good guy, terrific coach... but he was also canned in favor of another bust - Dave Smith.
June Jones coaching SMU to 4 bowl games with 3 wins is the best in our football history.
