Montana St. Fan here, what to expect?

Howdy from Big Sky Country!...I have been reading your board for a couple weeks now and thought this would be a good place to ask a few questions. We are traveling down to Dallas on Thursday. (Should be a good group of Cat fans coming down). We have never been to Dallas and have a few days to see some sights. What do you guys recommend, granted we will have a 9 month baby with us. We are taking a tour of Cowboy stadium and going to that game on Sunday.

Game day question. What time do the tailgates get going? We plan on hitting up the MSU Alum tailgate but want to wonder around and see SMU's.

Tailgating starts around 3 hours before game time. There are some fans that start earlier though. It will be hot so come prepared for the heat. Ozonas is good little restaurant close to the stadium on Greenville Avenue that is a local hangout. I hope you enjoy Dallas and the campus. The stadium is a good place to watch a game - there is not a bad seat in the stadium.

Many folks will be setting up on the BLVD 5-6 hours before the game, so don't be shy.

Bush library is worth scheduling (reservations are necessary). The Sixth Floor Museum in Dealey Plaza is very well done and recommended if you have a couple hours.

To party with the next generation of Dallas yuppies, head to McKinney Ave. The bars on SMU Blvd (not to be confused with The BLVD tailgate) and further south on Greenville Ave are also fun - lots of restaurants to choose from.

Since Dallas is a shopping mecca, most visitors enjoy walking through Highland Park Village and/or Northpark Mall (both within a couple miles of campus).

Hope you guys have a wonderful and safe trip down to Dallas. If I had a couple of days to breeze through Dallas I would do the following:

6th Floor Museum (JFK Library)
Dallas World Aquarium
Cowboys Stadium
Bush Library

That's the highlights from my perspective. Tailgating begins, as stated, about three hours prior to kickoff. No offense, but don't expect a great atmosphere b/c we just don't have a lot of folks down here that have heard of Montana State. Our girls are insanely hot and most of the tailgaters I've met have been overwhelmingly friendly to all outsiders.

Again, hope you have a great time here in Dallas and enjoy one of the most beautiful college campuses in the country here at SMU.

I always liked aquariums and zoos.
Don't know how far you are willing to travel all in all. Dallas and Fort Worth have zoos.
I think there is the world aquarium in downtown Dallas and one in Fair Park (I haven't been to them)
Grapevine has the new one. I want to see that one.

We toured the Bush Library last Saturday afternoon (no reservation necessary) and spent a good 3 hours there and LOVED it! It's a beautiful, interesting place and within Walking distance of the stadium on the SMU campus.

Why does nobody ever mention the Meadows Museum?


If anyone in your party is an art buff, or perhaps they just don't enjoy football for whatever reason, go to the Meadows Museum:

It has been listed as the 3rd best collection of Spanish art in the world, and the other two are in Spain. Velasquez, El Greco, Picasso, Goya, and more, it is an absolute MUST SEE for anyone who enjoys art, and it is literally a few hundred feet from the football stadium.

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR

Go to the museum on Friday, or perhaps Sunday, and go to the Game on Saturday. Between the game, the Bush Library, and the Meadows Museum, you get an absolutely amazing trip and never even have to leave campus.

If one is looking for a very large collection of Spanish art, Outside Spain, then the Meadows Museum is a great place to go.

Go eat at Chicken Scratch and have drinks at the Belmont Hotel. Go hang out in the Bishop Arts District of Oak Cliff.

The Bush Library is terrible. It looks like it was set up by a campaign consultant - just some shiny mail pieces promoting Bush. Nothing interesting about it. Go to the Meadows Museum. I went to both museums on Saturday. What a tragedy that there were only five people in the Meadows Museum and I had to wait to get into the Bush Library.
