B/c Jones and Hart were afraid we'd start off the year 0-4. We initially tried to get A&M to allow us to back out of that game but they werent having it.
Playing a D1AA school is one thing. I just don't know why you pick one that is considered to be top 5 and makes no sense at all from a geography standpoint. There are several D1AA schools here in Texas and LA that would have worked and would've brough more fans than Montana State. It was beyond dumb.

You obviously don't come on here much during the offseason.

When you make a schedule change that late in the game, you don't have a lot of choice. Baylor ended up playing Wofford instead of us.
Besides, you play a Texas FCS school and they're liable to get fired up to play a former SWC school. Although I believe that becomes less and less a problem for us the further we get removed from the good old SWC days.
And it wasn't just the likelihood of going 0-4, it was about the possibility of getting our doors blown off four games in a row. Even if we lose to Montana State (not out of the question at this point) the game should at least be competitive, one would hope.
The SMU program still isn't ready to take on three Big 12 teams and one SEC team all in a row, not unless one of them is Kansas. We just don't have depth, especially on defense. Baylor has way too much offensive speed for us to handle them right now. A lot of people still can't accept the fact Baylor is vastly superior to us, at least offensively, but the numbers don't lie.

That slogan comes in to play here "We do what we do!"

Honestly if I thought we were playing Baylor this weekend I'd be panicking.
We really need a game to get us on track, actually glad we are playing MSU now.....
If we had beat TTU it might be a different story.

Just being "competitive" in a loss on Saturday is totally unacceptable in year 6 of the JJ era. This is a "must win" game since we added them to make our schedule easier. It would be much less damaging to the program to be 0-4 with a loss to Baylor in a sold out Ford, than 0-4 with a loss to Montana St in front of 8-10K with this opponent.

Play the big boys and take your bumps is what we should do, ie, the Rice Owls.

SWC prestige is long gone man. College seniors were maybe 4 years old when we played our last SWC game. Most probably don't know it ever existed
