How does Golden reel in four and five stars under the darkest clouds and we cannot?

We're mass communicatin'. First-year Miami coach Al Golden is drawing rave reviews from local high school coaches for the "night-and-day difference" between his approach to South Florida recruiting and predecessor Randy Shannon's, by which they mean Golden actually appears interested. According to one area coach:

"There's a lot more communication and texts now. Miami didn't recruit any of our kids under Shannon." And another: "We see them more. This staff shows [its] face at your school even if you don't have a great prospect." And another: "[M]ore UM coaches are involved in recruiting now. Different coaches call the players. That keeps it fresh."


According to Golden, he's doubled the South Florida recruiting staff from four coaches to nine, and is gunning for a roster that's "80 percent Florida." So far, his first full class is well on its way: Of the 'Canes' 22 verbal commitments for 2012, 18 of them are from Florida, and 12 are from the greater Miami area.

Al Golden has been a fantastic recruiter at all of the places he has ever been.

If he were our coach, everybody on here would be pissed that he wears a shirt and tie on the sidelines and not a red or blue SMU polo shirt

Is this a serious question? He's recruiting for one of the premiere programs in the country, in the state with arguably the best talent in the country.

Until I can stop answering the question "What is SMU?", I don't think we are going to be pulling in any 4 or 5 star recruit. With or without June.

Some of us actually follow college football and were very familiar with Al Golden's reputation before he got to Miami-hell before he got to Temple

Miami has not been premier for a long time, cannot get buts in the seats and should get the death penalty - yet they a coach who recruits. Kinda like our basketball staff does. We have no excuse - recruiting is sales. And sales is a full time job.

The Hurricanes hold the record for most players selected in the first round in a single draft (6, in 2004), most first-round draft picks in a two-year period (11, from 2003 to 2004), most first-round draft picks in a three-year period (15, from 2002 through 2004), and most first-round picks in a four-year period (19, from 2001 through 2004).

For a 14-year period, from 1994 through 2008, Miami had at least one player selected in the first round of the NFL Draft.

The Miami Hurricanes are also 10th overall on the NFL's all-time number of draft picks with 315.[1]

As of the start of the 2013 NFL season, UM has the most players active in the NFL of any university in the nation, with 43, including players on NFL Practice Squads and Injured Reserves and not including current Free Agents.[2]

As of the 2013 NFL Draft, Miami now has had at least 1 NFL draft pick in every draft since 1975, each of the last 39 NFL drafts, one of the longest streaks among FBS programs. [3]

The Hurricanes once had a streak of 149 consecutive regular season weeks where a former Hurricane scored a touchdown in an NFL game; the streak started in Week 15 of the 2002 NFL regular season and ended in Week 11 of the 2011 season.[4] During the streak, 33 different former Hurricanes scored touchdowns and a total of 661 touchdowns were scored.

From the 2001 Miami Hurricanes football team alone, 42 players went on to be drafted into the NFL from (2002-2006), including 17 1st round picks.[5][6]

The Hurricanes have had at least 1 former player make the Pro Bowl every season since 1985. 28 years in a row and counting.

Miami is ranked fourth on the list of All-time Associated Press National Poll Championships, tied with Southern California and behind Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Alabama.

I just wish we had someone in place who gave a damn about SMU.

It would be nice to have a coaching staff that gets after in in recruiting. I am referring specifically to football as I am well aware of our recruiting in basketball and golf.

the really disappointing part of this is June could have made some big moves in this area with the retirement of the "3 Amigos". I really don't think June Jones is going anywhere unless its his decision EVEN if he wins only 4-5 games this year. So we are stuck with a broken recruiting Model now because I doubt he gets rid of the remaining core of his staff
