SMU 2014 US News Ranking Leaked?

This article came out earlier today about the "12 American Universities That Produce The Most CEO's" in which SMU was #10. However, when you look at the little synopsis of SMU, it shows the following:

US News Rankings: #40 Undergraduate, #52 MBA

Now this is definitely not our ranking from last year which was #58 among National Universities. If indeed that is our updated USNWR ranking........WOW! That would, almost certainly, move us past UT-Austin as they were #47 in last years rankings. I've attached the article below.

That is referring to the business schools only.

We've included all of this information for the top American schools, as well as the U.S. News and World Report's rankings of undergraduate and graduate business programs.

If that is only for undergraduate business then we have fallen. We were #26 or 28 when I was there and I graduated in 2003.

U.S. news uses a trailing 5 year average on most of its data, which means it is virtually impossible to move up or down by more than 4-5 spots. Getting above 50 will not happen in one year for us. Could even stay the same, if others are improving as quickly as we are - it is hard to make up ground on organizations that are also achieving at a very high level.

I think the business school in general is not ranked as it should be by USNews. We should be right there with UT. I personally would never go to UT, but it does have a very good UG business program. The Dean seems to be more focused on the professional programs (part-time, executive) than on the UG or full-time MBA rankings. That dean was there when I started at SMU. That's a loooong time ago. We need new blood in the b-school.

Regent Chairman: This is not a football vocational school. It's an institute for higher learning.
Coach Winters: Yeah, but when was the last time 80,000 people showed up to watch a kid do a damn chemistry experiment? Why don't you stick the bow-tie up your [deleted]?

In US News or BusinessWeek?

SMU is usually ranked in the 20s in BusinessWeek for undergrad business. To my knowledge, the US News ranking has always been lower

No, I am fairly confident it is business week that we are in the 20s.

I think this #40 ranking could be our new Undergrad ranking from USNWR!

BTW - it says "Undergradate" not "Bachelor" or something... We will see soon

frat,

Pretty sure, upon further review, that it is the ranking of the undergraduate business program in US News. If we jump from #58 to #40 in USNWR that will be a quantum leap forward for the university. I think getting to #40 is realistic in the next ten years, but we still have some work to do to get there (i.e. research dollars, growing endowment, getting 20K apps per year).

BTW, I spoke with someone in admissions and this past years incoming freshman class' average ACT/SAT was second in the state behind only Rice. We've blown by UT, A&M, etc.

I remember being completely unranked (not in top 50) by US News in 2006 or thereabouts. That same year, we were like #23 in BusinessWeek.

Dean Niemi said the overall incoming SAT score was 1302 for 2012. That was higher than all other Texas schools except Rice.

A #40 ranking seems low for undergrad business given how many top schools, like the Ivies and Stanford, do not have an undergrad program.
