2 turnovers in the red zone!
one I'm not sure about because it looked like our player
may have stepped out of bounds before he fumbled or
possibly the forward motion whistle should have been
blown before the fumble too.
more bogus calls from refs tonight
but pretty obvious we've got bigger problems than the refs
how could their WR's be soooooooo wide open all night?
this could be a long season.

Ken Acker has the swagger of Prime Time, but has looked poor in the first two games.

WE need to put some pressure on teams with the read option (we ran it a couple of times in the open field, not in the red zone). We need some quick slants to put pressure on the edges. We need the O line to man up and just blow the D off the ball.
I think some of the lack of imagination on the goal line is holding some plays back to prevent future opponents from preparing them. Common to do that.
But still, we are weak in the Red Zone and need to vastly improve. And holding on to the ball would be a huge plus.

The problem with wide open receivers is partly due to not getting pressure so we needed to blitz and even with that we did not get pressure and left holes in the D.

I'm working on bumper sticker slogans based on this post.

The MSU QB was very good at reading the blitz and hitting hot receivers when we did blitz. One of their TDs was a quick pass over the middle when we had a middle LB blitz. He was not the biggest QB in the world but he was very good at reading the D and getting rid of the ball.

Yes the D line needs to put more pressure on the qb and so does the LBs blitzing. That being said, the opponent's receivers are still TOO WIDE OPEN. I don't know what has happened because SMU played much tighter last year. I thought our defense would be tough this year. I'm a lot more worried about our defense then I am our offense. Both need to improve, but I think the offense is close to putting things together. However, the D is really shaky.
