Sad news, but truly the reality of where we are --- Last night was the lowest attendance in 10 years (10/18 vs. Boise St. - 10,109)
If it wasn't for the two bands that got free tickets plus the mini-Mustang cheerleaders, we only get 4 digits --- WOW.

And to think we could have had a sellout versus Baylor instead. Look for more of the same in conference play, possibly worse because we won't have a road crowd like that again.

I noticed TCU had pretty low attendance this week and were playing some directional U.

I wasn't driving up from Houston for this one.

True, but on the other hand, Baylor would still be scoring.

It wasn't a sexy opponent.

Does the attendance figure include the bands? If they received free tickets maybe they are not counted in the official attendance?

True, but we're going to have to deal with a potent Baylor offense for years to come, might as well have kept the sellout.

we must have a different way of counting in the American Conference cuz that was definitely not the worst crowd i have seen in 10 years.

It's like SMUer has posted several time and me as well over the years. If you have a crappy product nobody will come to see it. I still remember asking some alums from work why they don't go and number 1 reason: it isn't fun to watch. Which last night, that's exactly how I felt in the stands.

Fans are supposed to show up no matter who their team is playing. You come to support your school, not to watch the opponent.
One of the Coogs that live in Dallas tried to get tickets for the game and they litterally told him on the phone and I quote, "Why would you want to watch a Mustang game if you're not a student." That is SMU's problem, they need to reach out to the casual fan in Dallas. No reason to live in one of the largest cities in the country and not be able to fill up a 30,000 seat stadium.

The Rice finale in 2011 and the Coog High game in 2012 were easily worse than last night's game.

The underlined is absolutely correct

I would have gone to the Baylor game (got good Baylor friends) but I wasn't about to pay money to watch SMU lose to an FCS team. My CEO, also an alum, pretty much told me the same thing on Friday (and he goes with a large family). Does that make us lame fans? Probably, but there's only so much of this June Jones ineptitude that I can swallow, and if I'm going to swallow that I'd rather it be against sexier teams where a loss doesn't sting as bad.

I understand dropping Baylor to better our chances of not going 0-4,
but wouldn't scheduling North Texas instead of Montana State have accomplished
pretty much the same thing as far getting a win, but possibly been better attended?
