FCS Rankings:
#1 North Dakota State - beat Kansas State, Orange Bowl winner last year, on the road.
#2 Eastern Washington - beat Oregon State, #25 FBS on the road.
#3 Montana State - lost to SMU of the AAC, on the road.
I think we aren't giving these guys enough credit. That said, I want SMU to play better and not accept mediocrity.

You have a good point and it is easy to lose perspective when every has a hair trigger, and most here were worried about this game.
Still it would be a lot more reassuring if we hadn't had to come back from 27 points down.
Edit 17 points down -27 was a typo.

You're absolutely right. We all want the Ponies to play better, but that was a decent team last night that has the ability to beat a lot of FBS teams. They won't beat the SEC heavyweights, but that Montana State team is solid, and we're not giving them nearly enough credit.
With that said, we still have a lot of room for improvement. Hope some guys can heal up this week.

And those FBS teams are "better" than we are. It would not have surprised many on this board if we had lost this game.

Good point, and this is why I was so worried about MSU coming into the game. No doubt, they are a lot better than a lot of CUSA teams we have played throughout the years (and unfortunately lost to too many of those teams).

Thanks for this post. Tired of all the chicken littles It was week 2 with a new offense and a bunch of new faces on defense. Time to give our guys a break and see what they can do. May have saved the season with that final drive

I agree that it was not a bad win. I support the team for winning. I'm still upset with the AD for scheduling this team. Like it or not, you gain nothing by beating the top FCS teams. You get more respect for beating an inferior FBS team than a top tier FCS team even though the top FCS teams are better than the bottom FBS teams.

I was very impressed with Montana State. Not sure what is going on down in FCS land, but some of those programs are pretty darn good. I remember several years ago when Appalacian State beat Michigan at the Big House. I almost fell out of my chair; definitely one of the most shocking things I have ever seen in college football. But today, its just not that big of a surprise anymore when one of these top FCS schools comes in and knocks off an FBS school. They've really upped their game.
I am an absolutist when it comes to SMU football. The only thing I care about is whether we get a W or an L. I don't care who we are playing, and I don't care what the margin is. As long as we walk out of a game with a W, I'm happy. That was an entertaining game (at least late in the 4th quarter) and SMU won. So I'm good.

I'm happy with the win as well - there are things to build on hanging with Tech and beating a good Montana State team.
I saved ALOT of energy quietly browsing during the game, withholding judgement until it was over, then sleeping on it. UT getting embarrassed helped.
I hope everyone has a firm sense of reality concerning the next 2 games - and prepares accordingly.

Haha, yes. The next two are not worth stressing over. Hoping for no injuries and looking forward to Rutgers.

The happiest man in the stadium had to be Rick Hart. Buying out of the Baylor game and then adding an FCS powerhouse like Montana State was questioned by many.

I don't think another team losing should make us feel better about ourselves. Our performance on the field is what is going to get us a conference championship. With the being said the real season start with Rutgers.

SMU needs to use the A&M and TCU games (and this bye week) to get the young kids ready to play.

Of course...they are just preseason games and have no meaning...except of course to the SMU fans who remember we use to play these guys every year and many times even won those games. We are unfortunately a long ways away from those days. The coach that can bring us back to a semblance of those days will get the love June so desparately wants from the fans. I don't think June gets it.
