DALLAS (SMU) - Freshman returner JaBryce Taylor has been named the American Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, and the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) National Punt Returner Performer of the Week, it was announced Monday.

Taylor's 55-yard punt return for a touchdown as time expired in the first half on Saturday cut the Montana State lead to three heading into the intermission. The Mustang true freshman also added six kickoff returns for 125 yards (20.8 average), including a long of 40 to begin the game. On offense, Taylor had one carry for 27 yards to bring his all-purpose yards total to 207, the most by an SMU player in a game since Zach Line had 228 all-purpose yards against Marshall on Nov. 20, 2010.

Senior Chase Hover was also named to the honorable mention list for Placekicker Performer of the Week by CFPA. Hover converted all three of his field goal attempts (45,42,39) in week two, and is 6-for-7 on the season. The SMU senior was also perfect on both PATs. Hover is now third at SMU for PATs made (89) and fourth for FGs made (32) in a career.

Quarterback Garrett Gilbert was placed on the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll to round out the SMU honors in week two. Gilbert went 35-for-48 for 317 yards, throwing the game-winning touchdown pass with 12 seconds to go. On the game-winning score, Gilbert capped off a 13-play 81-yard drive in 3:41 with a four-yard strike to Darius Joseph.

The Mustangs are off this weekend, before traveling to College Station to take on No.6/6 Texas A&M on Sept. 21 at 6 p.m..
