Also means, Mack Brown retires after this year, and Rick Barnes gets fired after this year

Big picture Mack Brown probably voluntarily stepping aside too probably in some other position-could even be AD. He was AD at Tulane

No Mack is gone. He will retire as HC and probably serve out the remainder of his contract in a fund raising position. A gentle way to ride off into the sunset.
The AD position at the name brand schools has gone way beyond picking good coaches and " administering" a department.
It is now that plus fund raising, and ambassador to the legislature and alumni. It's why they get paid 1 mm+

I could see some " elder statesman" type get the job.

With a new AD, Texas is going to replace FB, BB, and baseball coaches next year.

I love David Shaw and I would be really bummed if he left Stanford for UT. I like having a school out there that proves you can have great academics AND athletics

Dodds knows Mack Brown will need to go and so he retires so he doesn't have to fire him.

Texas may offer the "bank vault" to Saban who may want to escape NCAA hot water at Alabama, plus Saban never stays anywhere very long, and Saban could turn Texas around pretty easily and be a new hero to a new audience. Texas in so many ways would be a perfect new stop for Saban. Saban could even demand a voice in who the new AD would be.

Or Texas could try and "kill two birds with one stone". Texas could get a really good coach and hurt one of their direct competitors by offering the bank vault to Kevin Sumlin, Gary patterson, or Kliff Kingsbury.

Many will think none of these coaches would leave their current positions, but at least one of them may end up having an interest if their current pay is doubled or even thripled and get to take-over one of the premier jobs in college football with an endless supply of top recruits.

We'll see.....

Wonder if Boise coach, Chris Peterson, interviews for this job? He'll never get a shot at a national championship under the new BCS format at Boise. I know he has turned down Oregon & UCLA just to mention a couple.

He has a great gig at Stanford, but if his friend (Bolesby) gets hired as UT AD and backs the Brinks truck up to his door, from a state with no state income tax, he would be foolish not to at least listen.

Incidentally, someone on the radio said Chip Brown is claiming he broke the story. I remember Chip from when he was an SMU journalism student.
