UH - See, this is how you schedule OOC games!

Postby ponyinNC » Thu Sep 19, 2013 6:29 am

Tx Tech, Kansas, and Tx St
http://blog.chron.com/sportsupdate/2013/...ll-series/

4 vs Tech

2 vs Kansas

2 vs Tx St

All are Home and Home.

The Tech home games will both be sellouts. They likely lose, but they have a chance.

Kansas gives them a beatable B12 opponent. Not sure about attendance, but it's great to beat up on BCS cupcakes.

TX St games will be sellouts as well. No Montana St and their 2k fans. TX st will bring a heck of a lot of fans. UH should win those games, although they did lose it last year. Budding rivalry perhaps???

Makes sense to me. Scheduling got out of control when a former AD and a former coach got the bighead. You are in charge of scheduling from now on.

UH plays Rice this week and UTSA next. So maybe they should listen to you.

Thanks Berger - I will add it to my resume at once!

I always thought our OOC should be:

*One or two Texas, BCS rivals / old SWC rivals (TCU, Tech, TAMU, Baylor)

*One beatable BCS opponent that we often recruit against (Kansas, Iowa St, Duke, Wake, etc)

*One or two nearby FCS schools or lower-level FBS schools (SFA, SHSU, TX St., UNT, UTSA, UTEP)

This is very similar to the old Arkansas formula. And it works.

Nothing groundbreaking here, we're doing the same with TCU, Baylor and UNT.

It is actually the pre BCS TCU formula.

KU didn't bring many fans to Rice last week so I doubt they'll bring many to UH unless Weiss (or his successor) get that program turned around.

I like our OOC slate going forward better than UH's.

TCU, Baylor, and UNT will all bring lots of fans and generate interest. Not sure how well KU will travel for football.

I must have been sleeping the better part of two decades. When did Kansas & Texas St become FBS football powers?

Is Tech done with playing SMU for a while? I'm guessing that this series with UH replaces SMU since they now play in the Metroplex every other year with TCU. I don't think that TX State should be a 1:1. They brought about the same as Montana State, approx. 2K, to our game last year. It was a good crowd but not one to write home about. They will improve from that since they're in FBS.

UH fans will get up for Kansas or any Power 5 school. KU will have fewer Houston area grads than up here in the DFW area. They had a few more fans than we did at the Armed Forces Bowl a few years ago.

UH beat Tech in 2009 with Keenum and lost its two in Lubbock.

With SMU's strong application pool in Florida, Chicago and California, I'm a bit surprised that the Ponies don't schedule schools like Cal, Stanford, USC, UCLA, SDSU, Miami, NWestern and Illinois.

Most of those schools wouldn't agree to a home and home and the rest wouldn't get Ford to 50% capacity.

Yeah! For the foreseeable future, Tech is off of the SMU schedule after this year, and A&M is off the SMU schedule after next year.

I would agree, but I think if SMU really tried, it could work out a deal with either USC or ucla. Those schools would also travel fairly well.

Go Ponies!

Another reason we're probably off Tech's schedule for the foreseeable future is that they play Baylor at Jerryworld every year now
