Is A&M the Superbowl for SMU?

With A&M at #10 they are likely the only top 10 team we will play this year. With two weeks to prepare, what do the Mustangs do? Play like Hawaii bowl studs or flop? Just for giggles, here is how we have fared against ranked teams (per SMU factbook). Based on history we will be lucky to get 2 touchdowns on the Ags.

2012 #15 TCU L 16-24
2011 #8 A&M L 14-46
.... #20 TCU W 40-33
.... #10 Houston L 7-37
2010 #4 TCU L 24-41
.... #25 UCF L 7-17
2009 #11 TCU L 14-39
.... #17 Houston L 15-38
2008 #12 Texas Tech L 7-43

TCU is always our Super Bowl

Please.

TCU is our rival. They are not the Super Bowl. Right now I would gladly take losing to TCU in return for, say, winning the Fiesta or Sugar Bowl right now.

Similarly, this game is not our Super Bowl because it has no real relevance on our season. It was a loss from day 1. Just avoid any major injuries and get ready for conference play

Sure hope the team doesn't think like you do.

With June the Hawaii Bowl has been our Super Bowl, which says a lot about the lack of ambition we've seen in his era.

This will be the biggest atmosphere most of these guys have ever played in or will ever get to play in. Certainly some of the players have been to A&M before.......but fore the foreseeable future, it's the only time we'll be playing in front of more than 80,000.

None of these are our super bowl. If we beat both A$M and TCU then went 0-8 in conference, would any of us be happy?

No, but then again if we win out the rest of the way we won't be happy because we did it in the wrong colored uniforms, before a half-empty stadium starting in the third quarter that, by the way, doesn't serve beer! Did I leave anything out? :D

This is what I mean by Super Bowl. This may be the biggest stage the players will ever get a chance to play in: 80,000, national tv?, top 10 team. Sure it would be awesome to play in a BCS bowl but if I am a player I am either a) soil my pants scared or b) ready to kill it and show that I am no second rate athlete. However, pure talent level will surface and either SMU can respectfully hang in there or just get plum blown out.

Yes, you left out having big horsys and poor PA announcer. Otherwise, a pretty solid list.

Big horses appear to be gone and the PA guy at the last game was great.

When was the last time SMU played a team with a Heisman winner from the previous year ? Does anyone know. Didn't we play against Ohio State when Archie Griffin had already won it once ?

The PA guy at the Montana State Game sounded like our regular guy from the last few seasons, and yes, he's good. I'm convinced the PA guy during the Tech game was some drunk dude from the Blvd who managed to stumble into the booth thinking it was a bathroom, or it was someone from The Ticket. Or both.

The PA guy at Montana State is also the PA guy for the Cowboys. He is under contract but was not available for the first Friday night game.
