Pony NATE-tion: What to do with Johnny Football?

Postby PonyPride » Thu Sep 19, 2013 4:41 pm

To have a chance against Texas A&M, the Mustangs must figure out a way to contain, if not stop, Aggie quarterback Johnny Manziel and wide receiver Mike Evans.

It seems our man had a birthday, so Nate is now PonyFans.com's 13-year-old columnist!

I'm very impressed with Nate's first 2 columns. For this one in particular, I appreciate that Nate has stated some hard truths about this game, but in a constructive way. Keep up the good work!

I agree, he's really doing a good job. He obviously wants SMU to win, but calls it like he sees it. Looking forward to the next.

Well at least he will not get confused with JF's Uncle Nate. :D

I'm going to make a comment that some will consider blasphemous.

As a child, I saw Doak Walker play a couple of times and in at least one public appearance. I wish I remembered more than that he was #37 and everyone said he was special. Anyone who grew up in the Park Cities of sixty-odd years ago has those memories. I also recall the retrospectives in the Dallas papers, national publications and Texas Football. One of the writers said something to the effect that no one in his experience had done more amazing things and excited so many on autumn afternoons than Doak Walker.

Johnny Manziel has a chance to be remembered in a similar way for the things he has done and may yet do as a ball player. Off the field, let me hasten to add, there seems to be no comparison between Manziel and Walker. That is his problem and maybe someday things will change. As matters are I hope he completes his playing days without injury although I wish he were on my side, warts and all.

This afternoon is likely to be another phenomenal display although I hope SMU will find a way to slow him down. I will remember that even if I am unlikely to appreciate the outcome. Maybe someone with better memories of Doak Walker will comment on the comparison I have made.

Stunned by the Aggies insult with the offside kike in the first quarater. Totally classless.

Well aTm showed a lot of class today by calling off the dogs after halftime.
