Thought this was a pretty impressive facility for a D3 school... Also have plans to add an IPF in the near future.
I feel that some of y'all on this forum are delusional. Our stadium is fine for our size and quite beautiful. We don't need to expand due to our student population level and because of our current attendance. SMU doesn't need an IPF. While it is a nice luxury to have, it isn't necessary. The reason why we don't have a better recruiting class isn't because we don't have an IPF. When the university does get one, it shouldn't replace the where the current track/soccer stadium is currently located. The soccer stadium is aesthetically pleasing due to its location, students from the new dorms can view their classmates. An IPF will just be an ugly box that you cannot view inside well. If we do get one, it should either be off campus or maybe where the practice field is currently located.
Not to be too confrontational, but what is some of the posters' fascination with expanding the stadium? If you can't even fill the seats consistently, why expand? I definitely agree that a double decker stadium looks better, but I think our stadium is great for our size.
We should look at people that SMU wants to emulate. Stanford reduced the size of their stadium in order to better fit their student body population. Stanford is bigger, in a power 5, and has an endowment of about 17 billion. In addition, Vanderbilt's stadium isn't that large even though it is in the SEC. See also Northwestern, Wake Forest, etc.
While I understand that this is a football forum, the best way we can help SMU is donating, attending games, and demanding that the current/future coach's emphasizes recruiting.
