Obsolete offensive innovator from a past era. Good enough to beat garbage teams but cant beat good ones.

Rice under Hatfield wasn't that bad of a football team. His option offense kept the Owls in many football games.
Any offense will work if it is executed well. But I agree with the idea that we ought to move away from the chuck and duck.

or North Texas under Todd dodge. Just don't know how to consistently compete at this level, not to mention recruit. If your goal is average there is a pretty good chance you will succeed.

If at all possible go get Chad Morris from Clemson at the end of the season. Give him a slightly better deal than June and put an out clause like Petrino has at WKU so it's not as easy for a P5 school to snatch him away.

he's already getting 1.5 Million a year as an assistant-he's going to have to get about 3 Million for him to even consider risking his future on SMU.

Sounds great in theory but in practice we'll be competing with several big boys who can offer the same plus much more in the way of facilities, conference affiliation, etc. The time to get Morris was 2 years ago before he blew up. We have to find the Chad Morris of 2011 in 2013.

Oh I get that he is a hot name right now. But that doesn't mean SMU shouldn't reach out to him. If they think overpaying a bit can get him go ahead and do it. Make an offer that would make him think twice about waiting for a "better" gig.

I agree that we should reach out to him but short of making him one of the highest paid coaches in college football (with money for his assistants equal to that of competitive P5 schools) he won't be coming here (nor will any big time candidate for that matter). When you can jump from P5 coordinator to P5 HC you don't have to take a step back to the G5.

For most of Jones tenure, the offense has been underwhelming. Now it appears to be clicking. The issue this year is a poor defense. The D has carried us the last 4 or so years. Now we can't count on the D for consistent stops.
If, big if, the O and the D could consistently produce this year, we would become a much more competitive team. And it would be nice if both sides of the ball clicked next Saturday. If so, we could win.
