Not at the end of the season. June should step down now. This week. Let an assistant coach the team for the rest of the season and then start over. This is an embarrassment. This team/program is grossly unmotivated, unprepared and shows no sense of urgency.

jj showed what kind of integrity and ethics he has when he recruited our players for a job that he didn't get.

If we are going to be serious about football, tell him to step down and pay him his money now. We need to let potential recruits know we making a change and getting serious. And when I say recruits I don't mean diamonds in the rough

Exactly we can't move forward and up if we don't cut the infection out.

But he took us to 4 straight bowls! ****
**** even though any team that is 6-6 goes to a bowl game during this era, and even in some cases, a losing team can go to a bowl game, depending on exemptions and championship games, and even though phil Bennett and Mike Cavan had seasons that would warrant bowl appearances, against much tougher competition mind you, in the June Jones Bowl Era, they just happened to do it when there were not a gazillion bowls and it actually meant it a little more.

Say we let JJ ride the season out, what does that accomplish? IMO, best case scenario we win two more game, Temple and USF. We finish 3-8 and JJ steps down. We've lost two months of recruiting. Having recruits come watch an uninspired team coached by a coach who care less in front of 10,000 fans is going to result in more 2-star recruits with no other offers. Same song different verse. Making a change now won't change attendance but at least we can sell hope for a brighter future to the kind of recruits we need.

I would like to see him out now with an acting coach the rest of the year but don't think that will happen. I just don't think the admin and $ supporters will spend the money to do this. IMO they don't sense the urgency that many of the fans do

seriously, the reason you can't is because the recruit won't know what kind of offensive/defensive scheme the new coach will run-just too long to leave them confused and guessing. They would all reopen their recruitment. No reason to do it now unless there is some currently unemployed coach we have lined up

This. We will lose recruits. Better to do it at the end of the regular season, assuming we don't make a bowl. Other than pacifying some fans, there is no upside to making a change now.

The reason to avoid making a move right now is because any replacement would probably be worse than June (he hasn't exactly assembled a crack staff of assistants). The recruits should hardly be a factor since the new coach is going to cut them loose anyway.

Agreed although success for me would be if half this class is not part of our team. And that is being generous as it looks like 75% are DIRs.
What I don't want, and what I think LA is alluding to, is for us to wait until season end and have SMU 'ceremoniously' retire JJ. To me, he lost that right with ASU and his lackadaisical work afterwards.
We wait till season end and someone on our radar may decide to go elsewhere + new HC loses precious recruiting time.
I say let's fire him the moment we have his permanent replacement, hopefully sooner rather than later.

I agree that is logical and makes sense. We'll see how a proven school committed to winning handles a similar situation, USC.

I know it's probably a disgrace but I think UNTs coach run a more balance if not a run type offense which would play to our advantage since we have talented RBs and good QBs, and maybe our O-line can make space for the RBs unless they continue to prove be completely useless, but considering what UNT has and where they are now I think that coach knows how to take dead teams to the next level, heck I'm fine with baliff unless someone know available or coaches will to come to our situation I think these two would be good prospects.
