Are We Tired Of This Crappy Offensive Scheme Yet?

Seriously,
Every SMU fan cringes on 2nd and 1, 2nd and goal from the 1, because we have no idea how to do that, we line up in the shotgun which already takes away the option that you may just try to pound it in.
This is a clown offense that has no place in college football.
I have not posted much, but I will repeat this, if this offense was so great, June Jones would be the coach of Alabama and everyone else would be copying it.
Fact is, this offense is a joke that has not worked in 20 years. Couple that with a lazy coach that just wants to sit on his butt and not recruit and take his 2 mil a year. You get what you get.
We are what we are.
The World is a Tuxedo and we are wearing a pair of brown shoes.

We may not have the players for any scheme to be consistently effective. Just sayin'.

Well, what we are doing now does not work.
Ask the question, you just blocked a punt, you have 1st and goal at the one yard line. Do you line up with the QB under the center in an I formation with a fullback and a runningback like all good teams do...or do you line up in the shotgun and take a bad snap to your feet and lose 20 yards.
It is such a JOKE to not be under center at 1st and goal on the one. It is assinine not to be.

Not saying you do not have a point but the team that beat us by 31 points did exactly the same thing you just described.

It wasn't just the possesion following the blocked punt. There were other series where we had 2 yards or less for a first down and couldn't do it on the ground,

Don't particularly care what offense SMU runs. What I do care about; is SMU having both an OL/DL that when they line up are physically going to kick the other teams @ZZ, and there's nothing the other team can do about it. . . That was the one thing I loved about the "early 80's Pony Excess" team. Wasn't about Eric Dickerson or Craig James running wild. It was about SMU dominating both the offense & defensive line of scrimmage

We ran the run-n-shoot better in the late 80's/early 90's.

Exactly Max! I focused on that one play because it stands out for most, but there were multiple times we were in short yardage....and this is it, maybe we made it, maybe we did it, but if you were an SMU Mustang fan, you cringed and did not like your chances.
What is up with that? I should be happy, not cringing at a 2nd and 1...but then my cringes are justified. 2nd and 1 becomes 3rd and 2 and then quickly becomes 4th and 2. No matter your offensive philosphy, if you want to be a top tier college football team, if you need 1 yard, you have to be able to line up and run for one yard.
And SMU has no idea how to do that.

You summed it up very nice....If you need a yard, line up and get a yard....we have no idea how to do that.
