But but but, you can't fire a coach midseason because you'll lose recruits.

UConn currently has 11 commits. Four 3-star recruits, which is twice as many as we have.

the difference is we aren't going to be firing June Jones. There is likely going to be a mutual parting of the ways before his lame duck season. If he can find a way to beat Rutgers we might even go to a bowl

Doubtful but if so, it'll be the Hawaii Bowl. Even though I don't believe there is an AAC tie-in, they will make an exception for JJ. It will be his swan song. And I'm sure the diamond in the rough recruits we're courting will be thoroughly impressed.

Hope UConn & SMU don't have the same wish list for HC, otherwise they might have a leg-up on us if we wait till the end of our season to replace JJ.

not saying we are exactly over-run by fanatics, but UConn folks would rather go see a high school lacrosse game than watch football.
also - we will pay a ton more. Not too worried about losing our coach prospect to UConn.

Unless they now see what not having a football program can do when conference realignment happens...... they had to have been crushed getting left behind and their leaders might not stand for it.

No, Connecticut is pretty much blase about football. I think they know that they have to have football to keep with the rest of Division I BCS, but if they didn't have that fire underneath them, they'd have been happy staying in the old Yankee conference for football. Connecticut is not a football state.

UCONN is arguably the worst football program in the NCAA. A basketball school where they don't care about football - right in the middle of a talent poor state. With an off-campus stadium 22 miles away from their campus. Without any meaningful rivals who will play them.
Yet this school somehow played in a Fiesta bowl in front of a half empty stadium. LMFAO - BCS.

From their AD:
""I am making this change in our football coaching staff now as we approach the conference season to see an improved performance from our football program," Manuel said in a statement. "I am disappointed in the record of our team thus far, but I am confident that our coaching staff and student-athletes will continue to work hard to improve and that will be reflected on the field of play as we start our American Athletic Conference season.""

When UCONN hired Pasqualoni their single biggest booster pitched a hissy fit and withdrew all support for the program because he wasn't consulted beforehand. Now he gives his support to Syracuse, the school that fired Pasqualoni.

I think this will be the way it goes. JJ will move on and so will we. And possibly the way it should be. After the season we can look back and see what our program achieved or failed to but I don't think it will make a difference as to how we move forward.
