Mack Brown to SMU

Now this is hot, isn't it? Insiders say that Mack Brown will succeed JJ as coach, as soon, of course, as Mack leaves UT and JJ leaves SMU. The pipeline between the football program at UT and SMU is already well established, with discarded UT players coming here. Now a discarded coach, and Mack is already looking at houses in Highland Park.

Yes, SMU now only hires coaches with the last name of Brown.

No Lane, No Mack Brown. Would be same as JJ - big splash with mediocre results (why would Mack Brown come here? I see him moving to the UT AD position - give him a nice "out"). Lane is terrible at building a program, methinks he has ridden his father's coattails.
I'd take the Baylor OC, but would prefer either someone like Chad Morris or someone with HC experience (would love to get Oregon's old HC, but like Jimmy Johnson I think he's enjoying the "retired" life) . . .

Don't think we can afford Chad Morris, nor would he be interested in SMU. If Texas can't buy Saban, my guess is they will go after Morris

After having to put up with all the pressure from alums especially the last few years, I don't know if Mack jumps into the other hot seat, AD. He is under contract until 2020. If anything, I can see him being named a special assistant to the President, the new AD or something along those lines. He will raise money and schmooze the alumni. Mack does get and understand the UT culture better than anyone since Darrell Royal.

They will go after Charlie Strong before they go after Morris. Texas doesn't hire coordinators often

Agree, Texas will only hire an existing HC.

Okay so the rumor is starting to get louder as I have heard from several people that he is indeed someone we are looking at/talking to...can anyone corroborate?
He would be a great addition to SMU...he can recruit and he is a nationally recognized coach. Will he take $2 million from the CoC and be buddies with Larry Brown?
