The Big 10 schools (and Notre Dame) play their opponents' fight songs as a welcome if the other teams' bands are unable to make the trip. Sort of a tradition in the Midwest

Coach Dreibrodt used to play the opposing SWC team's alma mater and fight song before each home basketball game. Of course one year the aggies complained about that nice gesture, saying that the only band allowed to play those songs was the aggie band.

I remember that. Did the Aggies really complain?

That was when the band had a little more on the ball. Band has been stuck in the mud for quite a while.

Wasn't that the game where the corp members stormed the floor ready to punch some lights out when Dreibrodt immediately played the Star Spangled Banner. All the corp members had to stop and salute the flag?

Stopped a possible brawl.

I enjoyed hearing Peruna too.

Right after that, they did a montage of all of the Tigers in the NFL. Now that we have a decent number of people playing on Sundays, we should look to do the same thing.

The Mustang Band played the opposing team's fight song at any football game in which their band was not present; this included the game against Ohio State in 1977.
