I am in no way of advocating for this (due to what happened in his short tenure there), but our AD's dad is the one who thought enough of him to hire him into a prominent SEC program. He was at one point in time on the SMU staff and he is currently on the Dallas Cowboys staff, coaching Beasley and Co...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derek_Dooley_(American_football)I am a proponent of the Larry Brown type hire, and this is not it. But this is the sort of thing that I fear will happen in the end.

What about Ball St football coach, Pete Lembo? He's 43 years old and has a 101-47 record in stops at Lehigh, Elon, and currently at Ball St. Fits the description of a young up & coming coach. . . Only drawback is he has no ties to Texas high school football.

after the Jones experience, I want Texas ties or at least a staff with deep Texas HS ties.

Chad Morris, Phil Montgomery etc. Not Dooley. Our AD's dad hired him after several coaches turned down Tennessee. Our AD's dad also fire Dooley. I don't think we go that route.

What makes you think a coach with no Texas HS ties couldn't hire a staff
that does have Texas HS ties

Derek Dooley would be a terrible hire. His Tennessee teams were awful

That's why I said afetr the Jones experience - because he didn't do that

Larry Brown type hire is catching lightning in a bottle. This would feel closer to a Jim Mora Jr type of hiring if he brought on the right staff. That seems like a more realistic model if you are going for a slightly more established coach.

Schiano will definitely be available after last night's game and the Bucs stinker of a season!

Dooley did not do that well at LA Tech. In fact Dykes was the one that turned LA Tech around. Dooley's recruiting was dismal at Tennessee and his offense were morbid. Just saying.

I'm not convinced we will have an opening, anyway.

Mike Hamilton hired Dooley at Tennessee, Dave Hart fired him. Though if the CoC is hung up on hiring another "proven coach" then I definitely think a retread like Dooley is the best we'll come up with.

I like Dooley. I think he's a decent guy.
But I still don't know why Tennessee hired him, and I don't see him being a successful HC.
