Greg Schiano...SMU...hmmm

Postby feelthehorsepower » Fri Oct 25, 2013 10:33 am

Greg Schiano to SMU?

Think about it.

1) Brought Rutgers program to relevance.
2) Rutgers running game was known nationally and some good RBs came out of there.
3) Rutgers defense top in the nation.
4) Rutgers got into a Power Conference and his legacy still holds, Rutg got picked up by Big Ten.'
5) He has the fire that we need in a head coach.
6) He has a lockdown on Florida and east coast recruits...solid connections and relationships
7) He will bring the media attention to the hilltop like never before!

Think about it...fire away!

Forgot to mention, perfect timing, he is about to be fired from Tampa Bay. He hasn't been successful in NFL, but then again, didn't Saban coach in Miami and was horrible??? Then what happened?

P5 school will snap him up pretty quickly (they love NFL refugees).

He didn't get Rutgers into the Big Ten. Their proximity to NYC did that. He was 68-67 in 11 seasons there. Before he got there, though, they were awful

I understand he was somewhat too conservative on offense and did not treat his players very well. I think we can do better. Just saying.

I like anyone who could "bring the wood" and excite our players and the administration.

Perhaps I'm the only one. But, I don't think that much of Greg Schiano

No way! Have you heard the comments coming from the players and organization. Super arrogant guy with ridiculous rules. Any football recruit has heard this the past few weeks.

He probably needs to rehab his image as a coordinator for a year or two before seriously being considered for HC gigs again

And yes, you'll notice I used the word men. That's because I've spoken to enough people who've played for Schiano during his two NFL seasons to conclude that he treats his players like children, which is a major reason he has lost his locker room.

"How bad is it there? It's worse than you can imagine," says one NFL player who spent 2012 with the Bucs. "It's like being in Cuba."

Several current Bucs players describe a similarly bleak environment in which the all-powerful, unyielding Schiano spews tone-deaf platitudes while demonstrating the personal charm of "Homeland" character Nicholas Brody.

None of this is a surprise to people in NFL scouting circles, who came to dread their visits to Rutgers when Schiano was coaching there from 2001 to 2011. As I wrote last September, such encounters were, in the words of one NFC personnel executive, "pure misery."

One veteran NFL coach told me then: "It's his way or (expletive) you. He needs to back up a little bit, or he's going to have a very hard time in this league over the long haul."

This dude has everything SMU should be looking for in their next HC.

Schiano would probably be better than June, but if they are going that route, I prefer Lovie Smith.
