Does SMU Get To 6 Wins?

I think we do. 6-6 is my prediction. We will beat Cinci after getting people healthy during the bye. With our schedule Cinci would have the same record probably. USF is terrible. We should score more than them, and we will beat UConn at home. 5-7 is the safer choice, but Junes teams always finish strong.

Gilbert will be the sole reason we do, if we do....but i think we do not. Cincinnati is not very good but we are ridiculously bad on the road. I think we beat USF and Connecticut, and that is it.

Its too bad, since i think our fan base actually travels pretty well to bowls that aren't on christmas eve - and Gilbert and several other seniors deserve a bowl. I just wish we had scheduled with our brains instead of our hearts, so that we could have some buzz about this team instead of three wipe outs to ex SWC team.

have you not caught the Houston games? I think they might be the best team in our conference - hate to say it.

No, this defense will lose us at least 3 more games. 5-7 at best.

Our D somehow needs to fix things. UH and UCF def losses. Cinn is a must win and tough. USF and UConn take care of business?

If only we had pulled out a W against Rutgers.... I think we can beat Cinci but we can't [deleted] around and decide to play one half of football... USF and UConn should be Ws.

All we need do is put together our first half at Memphis with our second half against Temple. 76 points should cover for the defense.

It should be interesting to say the least.

The smart money says no. I'd bet we finish with four wins for the season although the potential for six exists.

What could the Mustangs accomplish by playing a complete game instead of playing from way behind?

Our lighting strike offensive ability can really pressure opposing defenses, but our inconsistent and often inept defense scares nobody.

Factor in motivational listlessness, undisciplined behavior and the unforeseen disaster that shadows SMU football like a wraith and I can't see us beating anyone beyond UConn. Right now, I'm hoping UH and CF take us so lightly they fall asleep at the switch, allowing us to sneak past. We simply cannot count on Gilbert to shoulder the whole load. His mistake-free play (no interceptions) is defying gravity. If the Ponies would just come out of the gate breathing fire and attack an opponent from the opening kick to the final gun I'd be happy enough to let the chips fall where they may.

Best post I've read in a while.

I see wins against UConn and UH. Cincy is going to be tough. USF, I hope, is a win. But that one's going to be tougher than people think. I see us winning 2-3 more, but our defense is going to have to step it up and we have to eliminate the dumb plays (and we need to do a MUCH better job of creating turnovers - try to strip the ball at every opportunity). With Greenbauer and Pope out, our defense is really hurting (I have no idea what we're going to do with inside linebackers next year). If I were betting I say we finish with 5 wins, although I think 7 is possible.
