I guess I am the odd fan out cause I couldn't care less about Texas and their football program. Or Alabama's for that matter.

Well I think all SMU fans should care about UT within this context.

Saban currently makes $5.6M per year, JJ $2.1M.

I absolutely guarantee you if UT was given an either or option, JJ at $2.1M per year or Saban at $25M per year, they would 'Pony Up' and sign Saban. Same is true for Alabama.

So how does this impact SMU?, If UT offers crazy $ for Saban, it may begin a new arms war for coaching talent. The P5 have the resources. Non P5, not so much.

Don't count out smu for Saban. We are in Dallas which is a huge market. I hear this puts us in a great position.

I spoke to a close last week who has close ties to UT's Football program. This was not the topic of discussion, but it came up. He would only smile and say, don't be too surprised. For Saban, it's not the money ... although a few million more never hurt anyone. It's the Ego and the challenge of making UT Alabama and all the bragging right that go with it. The only coach to win National titles a 3 different schools. Unlike Alabama when he took over, UT's is in better shape .... quicker turnaround.

You have to understand the job of an agent. DON'T EVER burn any bridges. Always leave your options open. That statement doesn't mean anything other than 1) Saban is flattered but he is happy at UA and if the Alabama situation changes it leaves the door open, 2) it flatters the ut people who think they are extra special because they are the "only" school Saban would leave for. It makes Hicks look like a big shot which he is not. He is just some rich guy who thinks he has a lot of power and say so and wants people to know when in reality nobody cares about him or his opinion....just his money. At the right price and situation Saban would leave for anywhere as would any coach.
