The more I think about it

I think we pretty well executed June's game plan. Bending defense, win the turnovers, and outscore your opponent. We did it right but had a drop in the end zone, TD nullified by holding, and 2 missed FGs. With any of those it is 3 minimum points and 14 maximum points that would have been OT or win. I cannot blame the defense for the loss as bad as they performed. June says he is supposed to out score the opponent and he did not do that.

Red zone play calling also hurt. Just didn't make much sense. We really hadn't found a way to fix the problem all year. I can't remember the stats the announcers quoted on our lack of red zone TDs but it is really bad.

If your defense is like a sieve you need to score TDs or at least get your field goals. We did neither very well.

Gilbert had another monster game. The first 3 possessions we basically stopped ourselves. Three big time turnovers by our D while we took care of the ball. A couple of very long drives requiring very consistent execution.

The 3 biggest problems were:

1) Penalties
2) Crummy Field position
3) Horrible kicking game.

Poor punts helped UC and harmed our D. 2 missed FG.

And TD/drive killing penalties.

We played competitive against an AQ team on the road.

I'm disappointed we lost but we didn't fold or complete screw up like we have in the past.

Run defense did not do very well.

Win or lose, the punting has been unbelievable. Hover has done better than Loftus. Gilbert has done better than Loftus. We need to use someone else or just go for it on fourth down every time.

When did punters start to drop the ball to the foot. Too much room for variation as ball drops. I could kick WAY BACK. 58 yard field goals.

You hold laces in the space between thumb and pointer and extend arm to meet the foot with the ball in the correct position for straight contact. OR, if desired to banana to ball left or right... kind of like shaping your shot in golf.

The kicking game is bad. real bad.

We have the players to de MUCH better.

See you all on the Boulevard next Saturday at 10 am. Husky Puppy Stew! It will make you bark up a victory.

We left 21 points on the field in the first half b/w drops, nullified TDs, and missed FGs. Execute properly and we score 50+ points again. what a shame.

Neither did our running game. This might be the worst rushing attack we've had post death penalty.

Our rushing is actually doing very well. You just have to realize the mission of our rushing game is to give our receivers time to catch their breath.

yep, its hard to win games scoring in the low to mid 20s these days. 30 is minimum in most games and that would have done the job today. Just frustrating to see the defense miss tackles on crucial plays and give up the yardage first and 20.
