Gilbert, third nationally in total offense, has been ruled out for Friday’s game against Houston with a sprained MCL. He is questionable for the regular-season finale against Central Florida.

“Everything is structurally sound,’’ Gilbert said, standing with the aid of crutches after Tuesday’s practice. “It just kind of depends on how my knee responds to treatment, so we’ll see.’’

And there's your answer.

June's comments seem somewhat harsh about Burcham. Any thoughts?

I was going to keep this quiet, but since it's already out there.... I saw him today at the stadium when I was picking up tix. He is barely hobbling on the crutches. No weight on the knee and basically hopping on one foot. I have a very limited sports medicine background, but it don't look good.

Not a ringing endorsement for Burcham for sure....sounds like his work ethic might not be the best.

High work ethic doesn't seem to be a core principle with this team...

that comment was made before the USF game-I heard it in an interview last week-so he wasn't commenting on Burcham's game performance. Still SMU managed about 100 yards total offense after Burcham entered game so it might as well have been, He had a great pass on 4th and I. Otherwise, he was shaky, sloppy with his throws and couldn't get the ball downfield. I really thought SMU had a shot with Gilbert. I'm thinking about a 3 TD Houston victory now based on what I saw Saturday. The lack of any semblance of a running game to turn to is the nail on the coffin

Jones said the playbook will not be simplified for his young quarterback. He is convinced Burcham is ready.
“Adversity causes some people to break and others to find their destiny,’’ Jones said. “He got his opportunity. Had he failed, he may not have ever gotten another chance. But he made some plays, made a nice touchdown pass under pressure, and now it’s his job to lose.’’

This doesn't seem to jive with his earlier statement in the blog.

Haha, it's like June realized his corvette broke and now he is acting like his Camry is a hot rod.

First of article: Pretty much Burcham is a slacker...
End of article: Burcham is completely ready for this weekend...

I don't really see a contradiction. Burcham has apparently been somewhat lax in his practicing which I can understand when historically he felt he would never see the field. Now he needs to wake up and play. But I am hoping for some good play win or lose because he will most likely be our starter next year.

On the plus side Mrydel, I think you are going to have an extremely long life.

I agree with this as the most likely scenario.

Then again, you never know.

I agree with Stallion. I have been a champion of Neal, since he is from my home state and a lot of people are aware he went to SMU. However, his performance was not that good. His throws are weak and slow. I certainly hope it was the jitters, cause without a running game, we are dead meat Friday.

Always with the negative waves Judge, always with the negative waves.

I would have put more weight on our (lack of) offensive performance after the QB switch if we didn't run the ball something absurd like 25 times in a row. Kind of obvious what was coming, and the RBs aren't even that good.
