Pony NATE-tion: Can Burcham take SMU bowling?

Our man Nate has said a lot this season about what a good year Garrett Gilbert has had in 2013. But in wake of Gilbert's injury last week in Tampa, the Mustangs now will turn to redshirt freshman Neal Burcham to lead the offense. Nate looks at Burcham's first start and what the Mustangs have to do in order to beat the Houston Cougars Friday at Reliant Stadium.

I just keep telling myself he was the Co-MVP of the Elite 11 with Winston. He can't be THAT bad, right?

(and one correction: Stephon Sanders is a junior, but I get your point . . . if we think our defense this year is bad, just wait until next year with no Joyner and Pope -- I really worry about our ILBs -- hopefully Halverson's bro is a stud).

Think about our secondary without Acker and even Scott-there are no good answers that I see back there
