Egg Bowl Will Decide Liberty/BBVA Compass Option

a Mississippi victory over Mississippi St. will likely send a AAC team to Memphis rather than Birmingham. I'd think SMU with its small fan base is the least desirable option of AAC teams and would likely still head to the Beef O Brady Bowl(St Petersburg) if Bowl eligible. Now in the unlikely event that Rutgers lost 1- 2 remaining creampuff games and SMU somehow beat UH and UCF that might change

Given that I believe June will be back unless he doesn't want to be, I'd be happy with any of those options. I think we need a bowl (any bowl) to start recreating some positive momentum for the program.

A trip to St. Pete in January sounds pretty good to me even if I can't quite come to terms with buying a commemorative T-shirt that has Beef O Brady printed on it.

Birmingham is a great football town. That was a surprisingly FUN trip.

Sorry. Was inadvertent.

By that I meant that some people believe that if the team does poorly, we get a new head coach. Since I don't believe that option is on the table regardless of how the rest of the season goes, then the best case scenario is to win out (or failing that, win enough to go to a bowl) so that maybe we can get pointed in the right direction again.

FWIW, I am encouraged by the fact that the last couple of verbal commits had some nice things to say about our recruiting efforts.

In that case the comment wasn't inadvertent then. The last couple of commits have been a kid that got hurt then other schools back off of him and the other commit only had an offer from New Mexico. YIf that is encouraging to you then we may never be able to upset a BCS during regular season. But since you get secret info from the staff I can see why you want June to stay. Obviously you are a June support not an SMU supporter. By the way, a COC member doesn't exactly feel the same as you regarding June. Anyway, we'll see.

All I'm saying it that comments like "the coaches have been in constant contact with me" or "I have a good relationship with XYZ coach" beats the the crap out of "I was surprised to get an offer from SMU because I haven't heard from them".

I don't get anything secret from the coaches. I think you're making that (incorrect) inference.

As I said in my original post, "Given that I believe June will be back..." That means nothing more than my personal belief based on the evidence at hand. If I had a COC member tell me otherwise, I might change my mind. But regrettably, I don't know any COC members -- at least none that I'm aware of.

Pinstripe bowl vs. Notre Dame is a possibility I heard

If Rutgers beats one of the creampuffs there is a zero percentage chance the Pinstripe Bowl picks SMU. SMU is the 6th choice in a conference with 6 bowls-so whoever picks last is where SMU and our "fan base" will go.

FIFY I assume you are using the term "fans" loosely.

Stallion did you attend BBVA? We had a nice crowd travel to a bottom tier game in a not exciting location in an awful stadium. Out fan base will travel pretty well when we hit anything better than average.
