You almost have to respect the guy's confidence, bombing it downfield into double/triple coverage off his back foot. Please get well soon, Garrett.

Beginning to see why no P5 schools wanted him.

He has a strong arm and a quick release. The rest comes with experience. Remember all the criticism Gilbert got last year and he had played some. Burcham needs time on the field. He needs to be able to see coverage in a real time basis. I think he can be ok in time. Not doing well today however. And Arkansas did say they wanted him before he hurt his knee.

Remember that Burcham has not played for 2 1/2 years missing most of his high school senior year. I do not think you can draw too many conclusions from his performances the past 2 weeks. Yes, he has been in the system for long enough to understand the offense, but does not seem to instinctively react to it. He is still mechanical in his reads, locks on to his receivers and is still lost if he ever tries to look for secondary receivers. It is called inexperience and mirrors the problems JJ has had with every QB thus far that he has started at SMU. Is his system too complex and take too long to understand??? I do not have the answer, but 6 years of the same problems suggest this is the case.
I must admit that I really like JJ's efforts to bring in Mumme and incorporate the Air Raid offense and hurry up. I think the combination of offenses is dynamite in concept. Our problem is having the talent and time to figure it out. Since our recruiting is so suspect it is questionable that we will ever be able to run this hybrid.

Burcham will be fine but I just don't know if we have enough talent surrounding him next year. We loose some decent seniors after this year.

I was hopeful that Burcham would be a guy who saw the field well, but today showed the game was just too fast for him. he was forcing things downfield and hasn't grasped the concept of the dink and dunk that this offense is all about

When I see other teams with first year QBs being successful I have to believe it is a system that calls for too much, couple with defenses that have caught up with the "spread" type offenses. We need a coach that can recruit and develop a balanced team with an offense that can run and pass.

Didn't Techs qb have what, 2-a-days under his belt by the time he played against us? And only 2-a-days?
I'm with mrydel. Enough of this "his head is gonna spin for a year" offense.

remember GG was doing the same things last year. I really don't think you can make a projection from this game.
Agree we see the same issues from all he JJ QBs until GG this year. How many FR QBs have we played his year that managed to play well yet ours have been overwhelmed. It may be a system thing.

...And don't forget he is a RS-FR, not a true freshman. That's, what, 17 months in the system (June 2012 - late Nov. 2013)? Of course, the numerous dropped balls didn't help...
