ECM's Coaching Big Board

1a. Chad Morris, OC, Clemson
Would be an awesome, home run hire that would make waves in the state. On another note, it ain't happening.
1b. Kirby Smart, DC, Alabama
See Morris
2. Todd Herman, OC, Ohio State
Strong Texas ties. As a recruiter, Herman was named the 2013 Rivals.com Big Ten Recruiter of the Year and national Top 25 recruiter. 'Nuff said. Wouldn't be here long if he were successful, although that can be said of #1 and #3 as well,
3. Philip Montgomery, OC, Baylor
He's been with Briles forever. Texas ties are strong. Extremely well versed in a fast-paced, explosive offense that not only wins games but is entertaining and fun to watch.
4. Willie Fritz, HC, Sam Houston State
Strong Texas ties. 136-60 lifetime record at D2 and FCS levels. Took SHSU to the FCS National Championship Games in his second and third seasons there. Also was HC at Blinn JC from 93-96...we need a guy with JC ties who can get guys here that can contribute quickly since JJ mailed in recruiting since 2011. Would be 54 at the start of next season- we could be his final stop if he's successful here. Currently makes ~$250k at SHSU so we could get him cheap and hopefully have plenty of money left over for assistants' salaries.
5. Ed Orgeron, Interim HC, USC
Wait, what? No Texas ties, flamed out as HC at Ole Miss. But he is a dynamic, ace recruiter and a fiery coach so he's pretty much the exact opposite of June. It would be a "Wow" hire in terms of national exposure and would get people talking about SMU football again. We could also be treated to some pretty intense wars of words between him and Fatterson.
