Great coverage on CBS Sports for hoops.

...why do we have the phony pony for the graphics on one of our school's few national TV events?

You've really never seen high schools using college symbols? Plenty of colleges allow this for high schools. There are some within a very short drive of Dallas Hall: google W.T. White to take one example.

Why do you just look for opportunities to be annoying?

True RGV, I just went with a non-SMU example so "fthp" wouldn't claim it as further evidence that SMU is being lax in protecting itself.

How long have you been an SMU fan (Cougar King)? This is an old topic that SMU fans are well aware of.

Big time programs have high schools use their logo. What are you proposing?

Gotcha. In that case I offer up Clovis NM. When they first used the KState power cat, there was some blowback from KState..ultimately kstate charged them like a dollar a year or something to license it.

Lone Grove Longhorns as another example. Errbody does it

Tons of high schools are told they can no longer use college logos, as mentioned in above story. The guy on uni-watch.com posts the articles every time he comes across it.

Who really cares-but there are legal issues involved. If you don't protect a trademark against known unauthorized use then you lose the right to enforce your rights in the trademark. See Texas A&M threatened litigation concerning its "12 Man" mark

Man screw all of you. The way you treat new fans is the reason why our crappy program is not growing. You think you are so great cheering for a 0-12 program and bashing people that get mad because we consistently go 7-5? You alienate new fans from outside school with marketing SMU as a country club tailgate, and you alienate alumni with your negative attitude, putting down other people that don't think the same way as your negative selves. Football programs that are elite thrive because of being inclusive and adding to their fan base, wether it be tshirt fans, new alumni oblivious to the program but becoming new fans, community etc. not by [deleted] about how they are trolls and crying about every little thing the coach (whoever it is) does or doesn't do. I am new and I don't know crap about SMU because no one really cares when they are undergrads. It's the sad reality. I started caring because everyone at work cares for their football program and alma mater so I didn't want to get left behind. If you prefer our students/alumni graduate from SMU and become Texas/OU/Tech/TCU tshirt fans, then keep up what you are doing. It is working marvelously.
