Stallion Question

Of course anyone can answer, and I hope many do, but I think your knowledge of SMU football is better than most.
Assume that we have a new coaching staff in place this January.
What would be the outcome of a game played by the 2008 football team (JWill or BLM at QB, with ES, ARobinson, CBeasley, etc) vs our 2014 team, apparently QB'd by Burcham. Current recruits comprise our freshman 2014 class.
Game to be played Sept 1st at Ford stadium. Both teams are coached by the new coaching staff and would have 8 months of full practice time before the big game.
Who wins and by what score.
I will contribute my commentary later.

With BLM at QB, 2013 34 2008 24

While he's at it, maybe he or someone else can tell us the secret formula for Coca Cola, and the 11 secret herbs and spices for Col Sander's Kentucky Fried Chicken, or maybe divulge why Stonehenge was built ?

I'm too busy beating down the laughable Urban Myth that June Jones has had to deal with unfair academic admission issues

Either a P5 coach or a country western singer. Either way we would be better off.

Well, the response to this question is quite underwhelming to say the least, maybe because of the thread title.
But I think it is a legtimate question and to me, if the 2 teams were to play, I would say 2008 team defeats 2014 team 30-20. The game would be close, but I think the 2008 team is more talented and wins. (having Morstead is probably worth 4 points).
Which leads to the whole purpose of this question.
People in general like to parrot the company line. I see this here on PFs with the statement, 'June has put us in a better place, it's now time to take it to the next level'. I don't buy that. From a purely talent level, when you factor in this final class, I think we have regressed.
And this is before one factors in JJ's salary + the loosening of restrictions.

I respectfully disagree. As disappointing as it was to lose to Rutgers and as bleak as our bowl prospects look with Gilbert out, this team managed to win 5 games. That team won 1 game and was coming off a 1 win season. I think we can reasonably expect similar results next year which, while still very disappointing is not nearly as bleak as 1-11. Consider that next year Tulane and Tulsa will be in our league, adding another couple of easy wins.

What makes you think Tulane and Tulsa will be easy wins?

There doesn't seem to any part of this 5-7 or 6-6 team that will be improved in 2014........

There has never been a better anology to our program under June then the fact that 6 years into his reign we are arguing about who would win, the 1 win team or the 5 win team.
Does anyone need to know more than that to know we need a change?

So it has come down to hoping for weaker teams to come into the league in order to get wins. smh.

Well Thank-You gostangs, that was the whole purpose of this thread.
I never criticized JJ for what he did to JWill, he was imposing his own stamp on the program which any new coach is entitled to do.
I do think a JWill led team defeats our 2014 team, especially with our DBs next season. I would think even the most die-hard JJ supporters would acknowledge that a game between these 2 teams would be close. That is a reflection of the talent level of this team NEXT SEASON and a direct reflection on JJ.
