Yea, I'm confused about this poll as well. I thought everyone was complaining that we didn't have a fan base.

Sad but true. Talked to some of my friends at the Dallas young alumni event yesterday and they said they won't go to football games because we suck bad and JJ is partly to blame. They all say they would go to football games if SMU was a 9-10 win per season team and if we could compete/beat Texas teams like TTU, TCU and Texas A&M consistently.

But then you talk to the Football staff and they say the reason they can't recruit better is because we don't pack our stadium and we are not in a P5 conference...

Chicken or the egg...

For a small private school, winning comes first. Then fans. It never works the other way around. Ever.

It's more likely to unite the fanbase against June than anything else. I mean there has to be like only 5 hardcore June lovers left.

Ok everyone, please give me an honest answer:

If June Jones did the following:

1) Hits up the recruiting trail relentlessly, hires a great recruiting staff, gets the kids we need
2) Starts reaching out to the SMU/Dallas community
3) Makes things happen on the field next year (i.e., Burcham turns out to be the best QB we've ever had and we go 9-3 and a bowl puts us at 10-3)
4) Develops the "diamond in the rough" 2 star kids into 3.5/4 star kids like what happened to Zach Line
5) Gets us invited into a P5

Would your attitude towards him change at all?

I know this is all wishful thinking but what do y'all think? (and it is what I thought would happen...him getting paid $2 million and all...)

The football staff is just covering their asses with lame victim's rhetoric, they can't recruit because they have no interest in recruiting. The basketball staff recruits just fine without a full arena and the spoils of a P5 conference.

I jumped off the S.S. June last year. Who's left? Abu, PlanoStang, ponyboy?

True. If recruiting were about attendance then the basketball team would not have Mudiay, Frazier or Moreira.

You mean if he does everything that almost any football fan wishes their coach would do, specifically SMU?

I've seen a turn-around in attitude since the ASU fiasco (positive attitude, pushing for the Larry Brown hire, etc.). You can see it in June's demeanor in the interviews almost every day. My regret for him is that unless a miracle occurs and #3 comes to fruition, it may be an issue of too little too late.

It's sort of like an airplane crash in that they are never caused by one specific thing, but rather a cascade of events. You can identify each step in his fall from grace.

But if somehow we go 9-3 or 10-2 next year, almost everything else becomes a moot point (certainly concerns of recruiting would be greatly reduced). We won't solve attendance in one year, but by midpoint in a 10-2 season, pretty much everybody except Rebel10 would be back onboard.

The lack of recruiting in prior years will really haunt us next year. Also, this years new recruiting class will likely be the poorest one that jj has recruited since he came here.

We need a new coach and staff to turn this around and to reinvigorate the few existing fans that are left.

Next years recruiting class is down right awful. The cupboard is very bare after this season....
