The biggest question heading into SMU's game Saturday against UCF centers around the health of senior quarterback Garrett Gilbert, who missed last week's after injuring his knee two weeks ago against USF in Tampa. If he can't play, redshirt freshman Neal Burcham will make his second college start, but Gilbert said if he can get ready to play Saturday, he will. Gilbert visited with PonyFans.com to discuss the health of his knee, the steps he is taking in an effort to get ready and how he will handle the cold weather if he is able to play.

I wonder if they will do like DanFreibergerForHeisman said and shoot him up with drugs and brace the knee. But that kind of sounds like that would be treating him like plow horse to pulling a plow. I just wish the best for the young man whether he plays or not.

If he plays I will eat my shorts. No way in hell they let him play especially since it's going to be the Dallas equivalent of absolute zero in an end-of-days winter hell bowl.

I know GG wants to play (I would too), but if he's not at least 70%, I don't think JJ will risk this kids future for one (yes very important game). JJ is not that type of guy in my opinion ... right or wrong he is a player first coach. I'm not sure I would risk it either at less then 70%, plus with a cold slick field.

Even at 70%, on a slick field he could get injured even worse. Increasing your chances of going to a lower tier bowl are not worth his health especially since he is not getting paid like a pro.
