This is what hacks me off about June

I was a big June Jones supporter.
I think June did bring us out of the darkness,
but we now need someone else to take us to the next level.

What frustrates me about June is his "coded" language
that he has not and will not ever truly embrace SMU.

Look at this latest June Jones quote in the Dallas Morning News
about his possible contract extension:.

"I have an inner-city ministry that I started and really feel I have more work to do,” he said, “and that’s why I’m going to be in Dallas probably for the rest of my career."

Oh so it's not really SMU that keeps him here in Dallas, it's his ministry.
It's crystal clear in his statement that SMU is NOT the reason he will stay in Dallas.
Recruits and their parents can read between the lines!

And he has basically always spoke in these terms.
I remember when we've won big games he's said things like
"well I am just happy for the kids"....

If we are winning 9-10 games a year we could look over this,
but this guy is not passionate about SMU, we all know he'd
rather be somewhere else and when you are winning 5 games
in a season that is just not as easy to swallow.

He said he is thinking about it. Hopefully when UCF blows us out, SMU withdraws the extension and we sign a new coach in his stead.

Either someone way cheaper...like Sam Houston's coach for 400k a year.

Or $2.5 M for Chad Morris

The ministry quote was from right after the Arizona State situation. But I see what you are talking about with the "well I am just happy for the kids" statements. That kind of makes it a distancing statement.

If JJ connects with "the inner city ministry"so well, why does he not connect with the inner city to recruit? Maybe recruiting (choke) is the work he means he has left (ha!)

He said the same thing after the ASU debacle.

Glad to have you on the dark side, IPP

Ha Ha....Calallen I will never be on the "dark side".

I was raised to always see a silver-lining. (Thanks Mom!)

I don't think hiring June was a mistake.
I think June Jones brought us "out of the darkside"....
but I also think it's obvious his time here has run it's course
and it's time for someone else to take us to the next level.

I just hope we can hit a home run with this next
hire like we seemed to have done with Larry Brown.

What hacks me off is that he can make these comments and yet it does not seem to bother Rick Hart at all. If I was the AD I would not be ok with my coach making these comments. I also find it funny that Rick Hart declined to comment citing the school’s policy of not talking about contract negotiations. Yet June is already saying he will probably extend it.

...or the fact that a movie is being filmed in our locker room and FB offices...

Hart better grow some brass ones...or maybe he can borrow them from Alec Baldwin in Glengarry Glen Ross!

Unfortunately I don't see that happening. Hart is too much of a yes man.
Not trying to play the what if game, but I would be curious to see what things would be like if Orsini was still around.

Orsini didn't fire him after the ASU fiasco, right?

Plus Orsinis coaching searches didn't exactly go smoothly. We lucked out on both Jones and Brown, who he didn't want to hire.

This is why I won't back off, just yesterday you were singing his praises about how awesome he was and how dumb we are for wanting him gone. Trollolololololololol

Okay so what! I had mixed feelings about June Jones!

Let me give you the final take on what I think about the coaching situation:

I think June Jones is a great coach and has done good things at SMU. Our situation is unique, so I understand it takes a lot of time to build a program from where we were to where we want it to be. I was on board with June this season, even after learning about the ASU fiasco, crappy recruiting, projector incident etc. but the Houston game blowout was the last straw. He has been here 6 years and has not yet built up depth so that we can be competitive on both sides of the ball?

If June Jones stays, he has to do a 180 change in what he has been doing. In other words what I posted several days ago:

1) Hits up the recruiting trail relentlessly, hires a great recruiting staff, gets the kids we need
2) Starts reaching out to the SMU/Dallas community
3) Makes things happen on the field next year (i.e., Burcham turns out to be the best QB we've ever had and we go 9-3 and a bowl puts us at 10-3)
4) Develops the "diamond in the rough" 2 star kids into 3.5/4 star kids like what happened to Zach Line
5) Gets us invited into a P5

If he leaves, and we get a new head coach, we should make those 5 points part of what SMU and fans expect of him.

I am open to both scenarios happening, although I would prefer the second one (new coach) in order to push the program to the next level and get in the haves of CFB. (something I don't see happening with JJ in charge)
