JJ is 36-41 at SMU.

30-10 against teams with losing records.
6-31 against teams with winning records.
3-19 against C-USA & AAC conference mates with winning records (including Navy)

JJ almost has as many wins against D-AA teams (5), as wins against teams with winning records (6).

Forget about our difficult OOC schedule, against C-USA & AAC conference mates with winning records, JJ is 3-19. We should aspire to be the UT of the non-BCS world. Can you imagine UT extending Mack Brown if he went 3-19 against B12 opponents with winning records?

3 Highest Quality Wins in JJ era: 2011 TCU, 2010 Tulsa & 2012 Tulsa.

JJ's 36 victories have come against teams with an average Sagarin ranking of #111. Here are the teams over the past 6 years ranked #111 by Sagarin: Maine, Central Michigan, Southern Utah, Pennsylvania, Weber State & Elon.

And last but not least. JJ is 3-2 against Rice. But when Rice has a winning record, we are 0-2 against them.

We should all email this to RGT and Hart. That's incredible and so incredibly depressing

It's not that incredible. We beat the teams we are supposed to beat. The question is when are we "supposed to beat" better teams? This is an area where I am beginning to seriously question June. Is he creating a culture where the team expects to beat lesser opposition (which is a good development of his tenure) but accepts losing to greater opposition (which is a huge negative to me)?

This year we were competitive in every conference game except UH (which I am glad to see JJ admit he handled poorly in terms of NB) and there is no question that the athletic ability of the players we faced was a step up. As has been mentioned, AAC had some poor teams in terms of results this year but I would still maintain that as a conference they are superior to CUSA. And we were competitive with TCU and Tech until late in those games. This is where I wonder if an underlying culture of acceptance is an obstacle to finishing those games out.

Great facts & thanks.

Compare this to what the 'Godfather' has done with our basketball program in two short years & it stands out even more.

Most all of the bball wins are "FAKE" wins :!:

The odds of LB actually wanting to coach here were about 1 in 50, and the odds of an LB football equivalent wanting to coach here are about 1 in 100 :!:

Still don't understand how the Fresno State W or Nevada W are not considered higher quality wins than the Tulsa wins. Makes me question using Sagarin for this sort of analysis.

I would rather beat a 6-6 Pitt team than a 7-5 Utep team regardless of what Sagarin says about their ranking.

No need to bash Coach Brown he is not even a year and a half into the program. Let's wait until after 5 seasons in a tough AAC basketball conference before we start calling wins fake. If that is the case then all of the football teams wins this year were FAKE. A CoC member said that SMU is getting a ton of inquiries about the football position by reputable people and I trust what he is saying. If Coach Jones were to leave I believe we would be in good position to acquire a quality coach. And since he only want to coach 5 more years we are going to have to find a replacement sooner or later anyway. I believe we will be fine when that time comes.

It think he might be talking about regular season wins. We did not play Pitt during the regular season.

Wow, even a non-basketball fan can tell that LB has done an incredible job. He signed the 12th overall recruiting class last year and signed the #1 guard in the nation for next year. It's pretty clear he wants to be here considering he asked for the job and it's also pretty clear they are heading nowhere but up. Think before you type.

What do you consider a "fake" win? Texas A&M? Utah? Rhode Island? TCU?

More fun with numbers...
I noted this on another thread but JJ is 1-5 in opening games with the 1 win against FCS SFA in 2009. He is 0-5 in openers against FBS teams with an average margin of defeat of 24.4 points.

Against ranked teams (granted ranked at game time, not necessarily season end) JJ is 1-9 with an average margin of defeat of 22.7 points. The 1 win coming against #20 TCU in 2011.

We beat a ranked TCU in 2005, our only win, their only loss. We do manage to beat TCU every now and then.

I remember that one well. My senior year. Cost TCU a potential BCS bowl bid and a hefty paycheck. It came the week after TCU beat OU on the road if I remember correctly.

Where did I bash him :?:

He just hasn't beat anybody yet.

Sagarin:

Wins against #85 Texas A&M , #183 TCU, #222 Rhode Island, and #63 Utah are fake wins according to posters on the football board.

For fun here are the Rival FOOTBALL recruiting results for SMU, and TCU for 2002 - present.
Our years under JJ remind anybody of the first TCU years under Fatterson :?:

About those 2 Tulsa wins. In 2012 Tulsa was C-USA champs who defeated Iowa St in the Liberty Bowl. 2010 Tulsa defeated Notre Dame plus Hawaii in the Hawaii bowl. Both teams accomplished more than Fresno State or Nevada did in their seasons, so that does not surprise me.
