Why is the UT head coaching position so hallowed??Looking for responses by regulars. Stallion? u got an opinion?
All this talk of UT nationally. Yes, its an elite football school. Understood. History, tradition, recruiting, facilities. I understand that. However, is it really the premiere job in college football like some UT alums and some in the national media think? The way I see it there are other schools with everything UT has. Never in a million years would a guy like a Urban Meyer be truly interested in the Texas job.If he talks to UT he is just leveraging. The Big 10 is in a temporary lull but will rise again with all those sleeping giants (Pedophile U, Nebraska, Michigan etc.). Meyer will be able to compete for national championships just as well up there as in the struggling Big 12. Additionally, Meyer is from Ohio. Why the hell would he leave home to take the keys of a different colored Maserati? The only valid reason Saban leaves Alabama for Austin is want of a new challenge (or maybe his wife is understandably tiring of Tuscaloosa) but not because UT is a more attractive proposition football wise than Alabama. It would be a lateral move if that. Or at least this is what I perceive given the historical perspective of what constitutes a "powerhouse" program. Why is the UT job superior to say the USC job? or Alabama,Oklahoma,Michigan,tOSU, Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, Georgia etc. ??? Comments of any stripe welcome while Mustang faithful wait on June.
Re: Why is the UT head coaching position so hallowed??Rumor is that the Sabans like Tuscaloosa. Ought to; they are going to be treated like kinds and queens.
It's not the premiere job. Historically it's tradition is a full step behind a Bama, Ohio State or USC, IMO. Unless there is something that Saban privately covets - membership in Augusta or something like that - expect him to stay away from UT.
Re: Why is the UT head coaching position so hallowed??Sounds like Saban stays. ESPN all over it for their own interests LHN.
Love how all these experts said he is gone, you probably still dont know - all media b.s.

But they have great reasons for why they support June, based on what he said.
Re: Why is the UT head coaching position so hallowed??If it was about money then he would be at Texas. They make the most and have the most money.
Re: Why is the UT head coaching position so hallowed??UT is not such a great program as much as their alumni and media make it out to be.
Yes, it does have great facilities, and it does make a lot of money, but all of it thanks to Mack Brown. Texas had not been in the top for about 25 years until Mack Brown came in there and took them to the BCS national championship, TWICE. I would argue right now that conference mates OU, Oklahoma State and TCU have a comparable level of facilities that Texas has. Only thing is Texas has the status that it is the "University of Texas", flagship state school, AAU school and have tons of Tshirt fans all over the state. Texas is all smoke and mirrors, and the only way they keep in the top in terms of status is because of their monopoly in Big 12 revenue and the fact that they dominate that conference completely and keep other schools within it down. Look at Texas A&M now that they left to the SEC and have become the premier program in Texas, and soon to have the best facilities in the state and will dominate the recruiting battle. And don't forget, Texas was one of the reasons our program got destroyed...and they were the school that argued against bringing TCU, SMU, Houston and Rice into the Big 12 because they were "Small schools with small fan bases and no value." SCREW THE TEXAS WHORENS AND LONG LIVE THE SMU MUSTANGS!
Re: Why is the UT head coaching position so hallowed??....... I have no response to that.....
Re: Why is the UT head coaching position so hallowed??
You are "Central Texas Pony" after all...
Re: Why is the UT head coaching position so hallowed??Nothing about UT is as exalted as their fans believe. But money (salary) is no object, their recruiting classes are an embarrassment of riches, and they don't have reporters snooping around in their dirty laundry bin. UT definitely gets its way in the Big 12 and the school makes so much money off of the program that there is never a question about spending money on facilities to impress recruits. Any way you cut it the UT job is as desirable as any in the country particulary if I am correct that Okie State, Baylor, and TCU will not be perennial powers. Neither will K State once the current coaching staff is gone. Most years that leaves a pretty clear path to the national title if they can beat OU. A lot easier than the SEC.
Re: Why is the UT head coaching position so hallowed??
Yeah. That makes total sense. I'll just take my $50.00 bar tab now.
