Just curious. If he were willing to leave/gets canned, would he be able to recruit, fund raise, etc at SMU? I know there are some that say he can't coach, but he's built quit the program in ATX. What is he paid currently? would he accept $2M/yr?

He has been successful everywhere he has ever been. If we get an old and defeated MB looking to retire I will pass. An energized pissedoff MB wanting revenge, Sign me up

I honestly think he would be. He would definitely fill some seats just from people wanting to see what he does. He also adds a lot to the recruiting table and usually sends his assistants off to head coaching jobs. I think he'd be ok for a few years and then pass off to a young up and comer. but that's just my two cents

Don't underestimate the Longhorn fans coming out to support him at SMU. They may be through with him coaching at UT, but I am pretty sure they are all extremely grateful for all that he has done at UT.

They're saying the ball is now in his court, which after the way everyone assumed his time in Austin was absolutely done, represents one of the more impressive comebacks in recent memory. Even if he decides to walk away, the AD and Prez sure sounded at the UT football banquet like they want him back now.

I think it'd be incredible. Particularly if he had any decent staff in tow. He probably had some of the best connections to Texas area high schools, something we are severely lacking. If nothing else, significant boost to SMU's relationship w Texas high schools. Sign me up 7 days a week. No chance it happens though...

I think Mack Brown would be a terrible hire for SMU. No one would take him seriously here. He did am amazing job at Texas but we need something totally different here.

Yes. I compare it to Larry Brown's situation. Surround him with a young, aggressive staff & we r n business. Jim Tressel would also work for me.

Yes.

Not in my book. Maybe its because I live close to the UT campus and am inundated by all things Mack, but he whines too much, blames his assistants for everything, and has underperformed for several years. Loses to too many teams whose talent is inferior to his. Besides, I think that when the current regime leaves SMU it will be time to bring in a lean, hungry young guy who relates more to the players, a la Cliff Kingsbury. In my mind, the success of our new AD will be judged by whether he can spot up and coming coaching talent.

NO! Mack Brown was a great coach at North Carolina and for a few years at Texas. Then he got complacent and decided that Texas was an "easy" job. His teams the last few years have had gaping holes due to his (and his staff's) failure to recruit the right players for the team instead of just taking the first 25 commitments they got by July 23rd.

If Mack would bring the same effort that got him the Texas job to begin with... maybe. I doubt he still has that drive in him.
