Ok - what about Hudspeth? - fired up guy - looks like he would do what it takes - has been in Louisiana or arkansas his whole career. Looked like a dynamic offense - although mistake prone. I bet you could get him for 1M and spread the rest around 4-5 of the best recruiters you could find.
Opinions as potential next SMU coach?

Hudspeth looks like he could play LB right now. His energy is the other end of the spectrum from the morgue sidelines of SMU. This could be our guy.

Would it take $1MM??? Not sure what he makes but I doubt it takes that much to get him to move to smu.

We really upped the ante on coaches by giving away 2M for June Jones. We can realistically get a really good coach from a non BCS program for around 400k
As far as Hudspeth, he makes 750k...I think we would be better off with Sam Houston's Head Coach, or a BCS school's coordinator.

We already had a successful HC from a non-BCS program for $400,000. His name was Mike Cavan. Didn't work out.
Hudspeth is a name that has been thrown out a lot here - wouldn't be surprised if he moved up in jobs this year as the coaching carousel goes on.
People need to understand this isn't going to be an easy place to win. It may not be a graveyard anymore, and we've shown we will pay, but it ain't gonna be easy.

It's hard to win at SMU because the old guard is still stuck in the denial phase and insist that we play Texas P5 programs just because "We are SMU, we used to play them the whole time". We have to try something different: we can honor our program's legacy but we need to move on from the SWC. Let's start new traditions and a new brand of football here at SMU....hey, it's working for Basketball!! We will get to that point were we can be that elite non BCS team that eventually gets invited, but we need to start working towards it right now!

I agree with the scheduling issue buts it's probably more along the lines of trying to make a little money or raising some interest in the opponents though.
The problems with out program are basic - smaller budget, small facilities, little fan support, and stiff competition. We all acknowledge that.

Can't really compare old coaches to June because they more restrictions than June had. Also Cavan came from East Tennessee State which is not a D1A FBS school like Louisiana Lafayette is. Not apples to apples. Just sayin.

I don't know much about Willie Fritz's tenure at Sam Houston, but he did an incredible job at Blinn College. The BOT of Blinn isn't very supportive (they play their games at our less than ideal high school stadium), but he managed to win two national championships there.
I know he wouldn't look bored on the sidelines and he actually recruits.

I agree.
I'm actually surprised Texas hasn't at least talked about him, similar to Ohio State hiring Tressell from Youngstown State.

Hate to break the new to you but the ULL head coaching position is a better job than the SMU position. Just look at the attendance figures.

If attendance figures mattered like that, ECU would be the top coaching spot in North Carolina and the entire AAC next year...
