Do not be surprised if they do not have a head coach until after the bowl season and possibly until the end of the NFL playoffs. They have a good class of recruits who will all stay regardless of whether or not a new coach is named now or later. These are the benefits of being the top program in the country.

Plus they've been to xx straight bowl games. The real measure of success!

Hardly "the top program in the country". Top 10 yes.

^^This
But UT's problem right now is they can't just go out and hire the right guy for the job; they have to stick in somebody's eye.
There are a dozen coaches or more who can keep UT at the top of the Big XII, beat OU on a regular basis and stay a perennial NC contender, but that's not enough.
It has to be, for example, Nick Saban.
We're Texas. We've got the money.
Yeah, killer, only Saban probably ain't leaving. He's happy and Bama can go blow for blow in terms of money.
Fine. We'll get an NFL head coach.
Dude, an NFL coach ain't leaving for a college job unless it's a Petrino-type situation.
We're Texas. We've got the money.
Whatever. Now they want to say it's possibly Jimbo Fisher or Gus Malzahn. They want to act like the NC game is a resume builder for Austin.
It's sad, actually.

WARNING: OU is not OU any more-steady decline in recruiting-they lost a lot of assistant coaches in recent years and the current staff hasn't gotten it done for awhile. Their 2014 Class is ranked No. 35 and they don't have a Top 10 Class for half a decade.

Is it just the current staff? Or are the also getting increased competition from other schools, especially State? And possibly Baylor hitting the jackpot on RGIII and such?

Beg to differ. Recent survey of the value of college football franchises has Texas listed as the top program in the country by more than $ 3O million.

Respectfully disagree. Top five more likely. Resources(money), facilities, Texas HS recruiting
