RB Postion for 2014 May be Improving

I have not been reading this site a lot lately, so if this has already been posted ... I apologize.

I spent about 15mins talking with Kevin Pope after Saturday's B-Ball game. He was in a shoulder sling, so I asked him what happened. He said he tore his left labrumn (sp) in the Houston game and had surgery X-mass Eve. He said it will be about 4 months or so before he can start any real rehab, so he will miss spring wo's. I said spring wo's, he said yes. JJ told him that they were going to get him a 5th year. He never redshirted and only played 3 snaps his freshman year before getting hurt. I asked him if this is a maybe ... he said no it's a done deal, they just need to send the p-work in. Then he told me he was flipping back over to RB next year. I asked if he would see any "D", he said I hope so. But, RB was the focus. I would think JJ and staff must be very confident to ruin any chance this kid had for pro-day. I guess we will stay stunned, but KP was pumped and confident.

PF, if this is a no no for me to Post .. my bad, I'm sorry.

UAB was the 2nd game which was within 30% of 12 games-so if SMU can document that it was a season ending injury then it could be a legitimate medical redshirt

BTW I checked on Jeremy Johnson-no such luck-played in 5 games registering 1 catch-not eligible for a medical redshirt

I was never able to find out how the got our center (name escapes me) from last year an extra year when his injury did not appear to be season ending, so this group may know how to work the system pretty well. This is a good thing.

This would definitely be great news! If the staff can't recruit a competent running back at least it can scheme the system to keep the good one we already have lol!

We've been sitting on this story since the end of the season, and wouldn't say anything until the paperwork came back to make it official –– so it's not a done deal yet. Our history with the NCAA is not so great, so we didn't want to do anything to jeopardize this. I guess Pope has higher confidence in it going through than we did.

How exactly did he get hurt as a freshman? Anybody remember. It actually has to be a season ending inhury dicumented by medical staff. Its a slam-dunk but only if actually documentable. Interesting we had a thread in September 28, 2010 (several weeks after he played) where everyone mentioned Pope losing his redshirt but nobody knew about an injury

I still have confidence in Shead, if he can stay healthy. He was a high quality JUCO transfer. Typically, even with our now-NFL JUCO players (Crawford, Moore), it took them a number of weeks - and games - to really get clicking. I remember people bagging on Crawford after his debut at Texas Tech when we lost 31 - 27.

Shead was robbed of over a month of adjustment and development by that garbage horse-collar tackle against TTU this year, and then was injured again. If he can stay healthy, I think he can be a quality component of the running game.

That said, Pope looked great against UCF and as a 5th year senior ought to provide a boost.

I agree-shouldn't write off Shead. JUCOs usually take about half a season to get up to speed. Hopefully June won't have to steal another player from Mason. That Acker to WR talk turned out to be crazy talk as I thought it might since none of the other CBs were solid
