It is not. 4 teams get in not 2. The year TCU went undefeated and was 3rd in the nation they would have gone to the 4 team playoff instead of the Rose Bowl. A playoff is more inclusive.

conclusion: 4 team playoff is only more inclusive in determining one national champion. isn't college football supposed to be about more than that? the only time a four team playoff would be more interesting for me is if smu was one of them. not sure including a team from texas every 3 years or so would make enough difference to me. and how much damage does 4 team playoff do to the appeal of other bowls? i am still not sure i see the need for everybody to have a conference championship (bowl) game either. you could decide conference ties with head to head or points differential within the conference for all i care.

I guess basketball should have a 2 team national championship determined by a poll at the end of the year and have other exhibition games like the current BCS bowl games since college is suppose to be about more than that. Glad they don't do it that way because March Madness is extremely good. But maybe we could start be giving participation awards to kids for just playing instead of rewarding them for winning. Wait, I think we already do that.
