Mayfield also said Garrett Gilbert's one of his best friends. I wonder what Gilbert told him about playing for June? If he came to SMU he'd probably win the starting QB spot.

Boils down to the kid wanting to play in the Big 12, his numbers compare favorably to Oklahoma's other QBs so it's not as foolish as it might appear on the surface.

Well considering how well Trevor Knight played in the Sugar Bowl I don't think he is going to get much PT. Never mind that Tech is blocking his transfer there since its a conference opponent.

Also, with his little bash fest upon leaving I am not too sure Tech isn't better off.

The smart play would have been to keep his mouth shut until everything with OU was squared away.

Man, forgetting football for just a moment, when you pick OU as your academic "step up", it gives you a glimpse into just how sad life in Lubbock really is. Just struck me as amusing.

Young coach hopefully learned a lesson as did the old guy at TCU, Patterson. when you have guys contributing big to your program, especially starting, you had better let them know how much you appreciate their efforts and put them on scholarship fast. TCU had a starting linebacker quit after picture day which depleted an already thin unit..maybe cost them a game or two which might have been the difference in going to a bowl! These coaches think they have got you as an indentured servant knowing the transfer rules and can play you out before putting you on scholarship but sometimes it backfires.
