Since we are going hard after all these Army recruits you have to wonder if he is joining the SMU staff. 61 years old and just got fired after going 3-9. One of June's friends. Don't see any Texas ties with him.

thought has crossed my mind-there is an opening at either RB or OLine Coach. I think he came up as a DLine Coach

Army does have a great running game. With the addition of Gresham, you have to start thinking if SMU is adding a power running game to its offense.

Good move, imho

June Jones is still our coach. We are not transitioning to a power running offense w/ him at the helm.

What kind of recruiting help does he bring to that table? Army ran a completely different type of offense with cut blocking and no passing. Apparently Army did not do well with it's running game because it got him fired. No Texas ties and over 60 years old. Isn't this what we are trying to get away from?

Wow. Do not think I have ever seen a thought rumor floated and panic begin so quickly even on ponyfans.

You do have to remember, Army has a tougher time getting recruits due to their stringent post college commitment...

Whatever. If we do get him, it's a one year gig for a quality guy who players like. We all know that June is gone this time next year

What type of recruiting background does he have that would help us in Texas? Just asking.

He's friends with June, that's the only real qualification you need to get a job on staff. I'm sure he recruited plenty of Texas kids at Army though like Mumme I expect him to be a non-factor on the trail.

I have not heard anything on SMU getting good recruiters to start hitting the trail. I have heard from people close to the staff that they do realize the heat is getting turned up and that they recognize that fan apathy is increasing rapidly, especially now that basketball is generating excitement in our community that JJ's teams never did. Fans are mad because of lack of recruiting and they know it. Hopefully that is one of the adjustments made moving forward and definitely a question I will ask in the signing event.

God no.... Please, please, PLEASE NO!!!!!

If this ends up happening, it just shows the June is trolling us harder than we imagined. Hiring a triple option guy with no texas ties that's as old as June as his buddy.

No chance...even though June never could beat those undersized, slower academy guys who were better coached. Rich golf handicap is in the 20's and they need a scratch guy A player for their foursome.

Strangely, isnt the triple option more true to run 'n shoot principles than the RnS is? Use an unusual scheme to create mismatches and get the most out of inferior talent. In the 80s it was throwing against the run oriented defenses. In 10s it is running against the pass oriented defenses.
