For every one or two 2-star recruits per year that exceed expectations, there's 10 more that don't. We're never going to be competitive with TCU, Baylor, and UCF on the field if we're recruiting at a substantially lower level.

True, while people brag on the few that succeed it creates depth problems because so many do not.

This just goes to show something I have often said. It is my opinion that our current coaching staff does an excellent job of coaching. They stink at recruiting. You have listed our best players, but what if they had been our worst. We would be nationally ranked instead of in the middle of a sub P5 conference. I am happy for those you named, but I would like more for my SMU. If I were a marginally good high school player and I wanted to improve and get to the NFL, I would go to SMU if I had the opportunity, but I am not 17 and thinking I will be the exception and beat out all those 4 & 5 star players going to a big name school. If we want to be a big name school we will have to get a new coaching staff who also want to be a big name.

0 conference titles
0 weeks ranked
1-10 record vs ranked teams
6-30 record vs winning teams
2-17 record vs A&M, Baylor, TCU, Tech and Houston
Looks like those guys didn't accomplish all that much as a team, just saying.

If you look at it like that he really hasn't done this super duper job at coaching. One poster seems to say just about every year that the team will take about 6 games to get fully ready to play solid football. That is not good coaching imo.

Which is why June needs to stop sitting on his [deleted] and go meet every high school coach! A different one each week! And start building pipelines. That FWST article stated how TCU, TTU and even A&M have solid pipelines in DFW high schools while SMU and UNT simply don't.
I would pay for June to drive out to Cedar Hill, Desoto or even out as far as Longview to meet their coaches regularly. June does not understand how much you change a kid's opinion of your school by coming to visit and letting them know you care.

Exactly, what the effing point? So we got a couple guys each year that were good players?
HELLO, you need 22 guys that are all good players or else you're not good!!!!!!
