March 11, 2014

DALLAS (SMU) - SMU today announced it highly-anticipated 2014 football schedule. The slate is highlighted by six games on the SMU campus, including Ford Stadium match-ups with Texas A&M and TCU. Other 2014 visitors to Ford Stadium will be American Athletic Conference foes Cincinnati, Memphis, USF and Houston.

SMU opens the season on Sunday, Aug. 31, at Baylor, where the two squads will open BU's McLane Stadium. The following Saturday, SMU will play at UNT in the Mean Green's home opener on Sept. 6.

After an off week, SMU's home slate kicks off with back-to-back games against Texas A&M and TCU on Sept. 20 and 27, respectively. The Mustangs' first AAC road game of the year is up next, with an Oct. 4 trip to East Carolina.

After a second off week, SMU will again host back-to-back games with an Oct. 18 game against Cincinnati and an Oct. 25 game versus Memphis. After a third and final off week, SMU closes the regular season with five games, alternating away and home - Nov. 8 at Tulsa; Nov. 15 vs. USF at home; Nov. 22 at UCF; Friday, Nov. 28 vs. Houston at Ford Stadium; and Dec. 6 at UConn.

so we don't play Tulane or Temple (more winnable games) but do get UCF (road), ECU (road), Cincy and Housrton which are tougher teams.

What does "Conference Event" mean for the East Carolina, Cincy & UCF games?

How many times will ponyboy and FTH aka Big12 whine about-"but we are playing 8 bowl teams" Wah! This actually is a tougher schedule than last year since we didn't play Louisville anyway last year. 6 straight bowl teams to open the season.

SMU lost to UCF at home last year so it would be tough to expect more playing in the road.

Not sure what to expect from ECU.

UC at home should be a close game and UH at home will DEFINITELY be closer than last year's game.

At UConn on 12/6? The equipment guys will have to pull out the cold weather gear they last used for those games at Air Force, Utah and Wyoming.

We'll probably lose at least 2, though I'd bet on 3 just because of how the schedule is set up.
