Former SMU defensive lineman Aaron "Spike" Davis says he plans to sign a contract with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League.

I spoke to his dad this past Thursday. He said Aaron was also going to go through SMU's pro-day and a regional NFL combine this weekend in Indy in hopes of an NFL opp. However, he had a great CFL workout, and Winnepeg (Jeff Reinbold) reserved him. I think every CFL team can reserve 30 US (American) players. Good luck Spike ... kid really wants an opp and has worked his tail off ... hope it works out.

One other note. I was told he is now 305 and ran a 4.82 ... 34" vert, 4.40 shuttle, 10'2" broad jump ... impressive numbers for a guy that size. Hopefully he can duplicate them at pro-day and regional combine ... better yet improve them.

Enjoyed watching him at smu. So what is keeping him from the nfl. It seems he has great measurables, always played tuff and hustled at smu and was fun to watch on special teams too.

I would assume it's because he's not quite big enough to be an NFL nose, although with the right team, he could be a DT/DE hybrid and a special teams animal.
