The board is still trying to determine how, or if, smaller leagues will be allowed to implement measures passed under the “autonomy†provisions.
They are trying to hose the AAC in this deal...

simple breakdown from Stewart Mandel.......the AAC should be fine...
http://college-football.si.com/2014/04/ ... ructuring/ To be clear, the five power conferences are NOT breaking away from the NCAA."
"Nor will these leagues be “playing by their own rules.†Anything the five power conferences agree to, the other 27 leagues will be free to adopt, too. (It’s not yet clear what the mechanism for that will be.)"

The board will seek feedback on some questions raised by members of governance bodies in recent days, including: the process by which items decided by the full division could become part of the list of autonomous areas; the voting, interpretation and enforcement processes within the five highest-profile conferences; and the core structure that separates not only the five highest-profile conferences into their own group but also continues a separation of the next five conferences (the American Athletic Conference, Conference-USA, Mid-American Conference, Mountain West Conference and Sun Belt Conference) from the remaining 22.

In other words, American/C-USA/MAC/MWC/SB don't want to be lumped in with other 22 conferences on major issues.

This is serious though. We need to stop the whining and pack Moody and Ford, no matter the coach, no matter how crappy or awesome the teams are. We need to move to a P5 and the only way to do so is with attendance and showing we can roll with the big dogs in revenue. We are probably grossing around 40-50M in revenues...we need to jump to 60-65M within the next 5 years or quicker.
How? We need to do the following and possibly more:
1) Pack Ford and Moody (buy season tickets every year no matter what)
2) Donate to Mustang Club and Athletics
3) Keep the CoC happy and bring in our big donors into the fold
4) Hart keeps working the back channels to get us into a P5

The invitation to the other 5 conferences has been extended pending them getting their houses in order and becoming real players in this.

Read something somewhere (cant remember- too hungover) saying that cost of living stipends could be a big deal and advantageous for schools in major metro areas since the cost of living is higher. If we get on board with the P5 conferences and can give larger stipends for living in Dallas than say, Lubbock or Waco or Stillwater, that would be a minor advantage for us.

It's a statement and my view of what this action means.

Shouldn't the group of five be down to the group of four now that all even decent Sun Belt programs are in C-USA?

This may give a slight advantage to AAC schools since most of them are in major metro areas of Dallas, Houston, Orlando, Tampa, New Orleans, Cincy, Philly etc.

The AAC is the only non-P5 conference to state publicly, on the record, numerous times, that it will mirror the actions of the P5 in every way.
