Former top HS QB recruit Jake Heaps is leaving #Kansas. Utah State, Southern Utah, Eastern ILL, SMU & Boise ST potential landing spots
Heaps was the #1 pro style QB in the nation coming out of HS in 2010. Not sure if he would be immediately eligible, I think he would be though- I think he already graduated from KU and already used his RS when he transferred from BYU to Kansas

You saw how long it took Garret Gilbert to grasp June Jones run-n-shoot offense. . . And he had 2 years of eligibility. Rather just go with the underclassmen on the roster, and see if any of the QB's have a future.

He'd pick up the offense about 6 months after he left the program...

There is no reason ever to not add competition to the roster, IMHO.

It's not that hard. And we need some depth in this spot.

Strong position, I'll buy it.
In all seriousness though more competition in this position is never a bad thing. We gotta have a stud QB for this offense to even have a chance of being successful.

Will we be running this offense after 2014?

I don't think Heaps would come here just to fill a spot on the roster to compete. Where he goes I would think that he would have assurances that he would start.

Has anyone watched a KU game? He's no Gilbert.

SMU should take him. Just because he comes to a school isn't an assurance of starting. Get him on the roster for competition and depth. If he doesn't end up playing, ok. If he does? Good thing you had him because the others must be worse.

Since he only has one year left if I were him I would only go to a school in which the head coach told me point blank that I would start. Happens all the time. June said that GG would be the starter before fall camp even began when he first got here so i am sure he could do the same for Heaps if he wanted to nut so could other head coaches as well.

even though he has moved around-he has started for significant portions of his career at BYU and Kansas. 32 TDs including 15 at BYU in freshman season. Has more experience than all the QBs on our campus combined. Negative-he just has a terrible Yards per attempt ratio and performance has seemed to drop annually since his freshman year

What does it say about our staff's confidence in Burcham that we're in the running for these fifth year senior QB transfers?
