Duke Lax player Hipps transferring to play football at SMUhttp://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap200000 ... all-at-smu
Duke lacrosse player Chris Hipps, several years removed from being one of the most talented wide receivers in the Texas high school football ranks, will give football one final shot. Hipps will transfer to SMU to compete in football this fall, per NFL Media senior analyst Gil Brandt. The 6-foot-4, 211-pound former receiver has been an outstanding lacrosse player at Duke, which boasts one of the nation's top lacrosse programs. In fact, Hipps and the Blue Devils won the national title Monday with an 11-9 win over Notre Dame. There is no telling how much rust Hipps will have to shake loose in order to rise up the SMU football depth chart, but he certainly has the background for it. He caught 86 passes for 1,580 yards and 18 touchdowns as a senior at Highland Park High. And if SMU's depth chart is any indication, Hipps' homecoming could result in quick playing time. The Mustangs list four receivers in their base offense, and exited spring practice with a freshman, sophomore, and junior that each lack a varsity letter occupying three of the four starting roles. "smupony94: Harry, you have been promoted to purveyor of official status capabilities."
Re: Duke Lax player Hipps transferring to play football at SWell, this is...odd.
Another sign of June's desperation? Tough to believe a guy who hasn't played football in four years can come in here and make an impact in one season. May also be a glaring indictment of our current receiving corp for next year. Regardless, at 6'4" 210 he has the size we've been lacking in WRs during most of JJ's tenure. Hope it works out and he can contribute next year, but this doesn't seem like something that FBS programs do very often. 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient

Re: Duke Lax player Hipps transferring to play football at Sanyone remember Greg Paulas, the Duke point guard that transferred to play QB at Syracuse after not playing football for 4 years?
Re: Duke Lax player Hipps transferring to play football at SHey, it means we have a 2 time national champion on the roster.
Glass 1/60 full.
Re: Duke Lax player Hipps transferring to play football at SThe social experiment of collisions with UCF safeties envisioning NFL futures and Johns Hopkins defenders envisioning med school is almost book-worthy.
Can he bring his friend? http://www.goduke.com/ViewArticle.dbml? ... EASON=2013
Re: Duke Lax player Hipps transferring to play football at S6'4" is a nice size for a wideout.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Duke Lax player Hipps transferring to play football at She was a stud at HP. Even more so in lacrosse. 2 titles in the last 2 years in lacrosse and it seems like he is ready for a new challenge
Re: Duke Lax player Hipps transferring to play football at SI guess JJ saw a tape of Hipps in the Duke/ND lacrosse game ?
Smustatesman aka NUKE......I procreate and I vote.
Re: Duke Lax player Hipps transferring to play football at SWhat do we have to lose? Great size, past history of HS dominance. This is either a good thing or a non issue.
Re: Duke Lax player Hipps transferring to play football at SI understand the rust. But I am betting that this guy will be a very good player for us.

Why do you have to be so optimistic??? ![]()
Re: Duke Lax player Hipps transferring to play football at SNever a dull moment!
Hopefully Hipps can contribute this fall. Shake It Off Moody
Re: Duke Lax player Hipps transferring to play football at SLacrosse is no joke and takes tons of athleticism and he probably has great hand/eye coordination. And in an offense where one sort of runs routes and makes stuff up on the fly I think this kid can make an impact. If nothing else stick him out there in a mismatch and see what he's got.
